Here Is How Ansh Fought His Existential Mindset With Therapy

I began feeling existential and was taking my life for granted. It all changed when I decided to seek help

“The future depends on what you do today.”

According to a 2017 survey, less than 10% of Indian college graduates are sure about what career they want to pursue after receiving their degrees. Yet, as a society, we force our students to have their career paths sorted even before they leave school. Wouldn’t you agree that it can get a bit too overwhelming?

21-year-old Ansh (name changed), has been on the receiving end of this unfair pressure. A student of the prestigious IIT Kharagpur, Ansh is passionate about tackling the climate change crisis. He found himself struggling to find the right career path for himself.

“I am in my 4th year in college and my interests lie in the field of climate change. It is an unconventional career choice and I was not sure if I would  be able to pursue it full time.”

During this confusing time, Ansh noticed changes in his behaviour and his issues of overthinking cropped up making him feel helpless. He was feeling unsure about what he wanted to do as he had multiple skills in the field of technology, design and social sciences which caused a conundrum while applying for jobs. This was the main reason why he decided to seek therapy on YourDOST.

I began feeling existential without any purpose to live. Through the sessions, I realised that I was taking all my relationships with my friends and family for granted. My expert helped me understand the beauty in simplicity and this helped me understand the simple mundane aspects of life.

Ansh felt like he was changing as a person. He began talking about his feelings and his expert helped him sort his thoughts out as the sessions progressed. She also suggested that he consume lighter content rather than his usual intense content, which helped him feel less existential.

Therapy really opened my eyes to the content I was consuming, it was playing a role in the way I was feeling. I was feeling a lot more positive about life, and was appreciating the simple conversations in my life which got me closer to my friends and family.

“I would like to thank my therapist for being so supportive throughout my journey, I wish her the best for her career.”
