Emotional Chaos To Inner Calm: This Is Tina’s Journey With Transformational Therapy

4 minutes

Tina is a graceful 25-year-old law student pursuing her final year in LLB Honours from Bennett University.

She is originally from Delhi and lived there throughout her childhood, schooling, and graduation. Tina comes from a nuclear family and has a strong relationship with her parents and younger brother.

She pursued a B.Com from the University of Delhi and took a break after graduating. Tina then moved to Greater Noida to obtain her second degree. In her leisure time, Tina is also interested in artistic things like drawing, painting, reading, and journaling.

Tina explains that along her journey during her second degree, Tina was diagnosed with PCOS  and borderline personality disorder. The medicines prescribed for treating both conditions were taking a toll on her overall well-being. She recalls feeling overwhelmed and highly anxious.

“I wasn’t comfortable with all the medications, and it brought up a lot of negative thoughts. It was also around that time that I had to make some choices about my future and career.”

Tina wanted to get an opinion about these issues from someone knowledgeable and nonjudgmental. She approached the counselors on the YourDOST platform, as her college had partnered with them to aid students’ emotional vitality.

At first, she met with the counselors visiting her campus, but as Tina preferred consistency, she switched to online sessions with Ms Mahima Gupta. She elaborates that in the initial sessions, she was hesitant to share her issues with the counselors, but with Ms. Mahima Gupta, it went easily. Eventually, Tina says the counselor’s methods made her comfortable and more open.

“All the counselors I interacted with from YourDOST were great listeners, and Ms Mahima helped me break the shell and share with her openly. She was attentive and patient and gave activities to follow after each session, which were more personalised to my situation.”

Tina adds that these gave her hope, which in turn helped her believe in the process. She started taking the sessions every week, and the counselor helped Tina approach her problems individually.

The counselor taught her mindfulness exercises, such as the grounding technique, to help with her burnout or unclear mindset. She also made her write the pros and cons of her significant challenges and suggested that Tina stick the sheet on her room wall to remind her of her choices.

Tina elaborates that the activities were interesting, realistic, and applicable to multiple scenarios of her life. The counselor also made Tina try journaling her thoughts and feelings to help her understand what makes her comfortable and what doesn’t.

They also explored Tina’s lifestyle and way of life to determine how they could strategise and improve Tina’s life personally and professionally. These helped Tina eliminate all her confusion and develop a positive mindset. She explains that she eventually understood how to deal with her conditions daily.

As Tina struggled with remembering things when she didn’t revise multiple times, the counselor helped her make feasible and realistic timetables and plan her routine. This helped with her uncertainty about her future and made her feel more confident and prepared.

As part of her introspection, she also explored various kinds of journaling, such as manifestation journaling, unsent letters, Pros-cons write-ups, and a List of 100 for Brainstorming.

“Journaling has been a game changer. It’s the best thing I learned from therapy, and it aids in my decision-making a lot.”

Moving on in her life, Tina thanks her counselor for making her more confident and encouraging her to put effort into her growth. She adds that she had made mindset therapy her coping mechanism to deal with any difficulty. She rates herself 3.8 out of 5, believing she has progressed in her growth and development. She believes she has much potential to work on herself for future growth.

Understanding the importance of mental health, Tina started emphasising them whenever she worked on projects relating to health care. As she continues to work on herself and the collective growth of the people around her, we are proud of her steps towards growth and fulfilment.

Tina’s Warrior Tips:
1.“Focus on execution rather than just strategising and fearing the outcomes.”
2.“Build resistance to recover from your difficulties and trust your process.”
