Dissecting the Question of This or That: Reshma’s Path Towards Enlightenment with Therapy

4 minutes

“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” – Albert Einstein.

When life gets difficult, it can feel overwhelming and confusing to move forward, but we often find new opportunities for growth during these hard times. With the right support and guidance, we can turn challenges into experiences to improve ourselves and move forward with confidence.

Meet Reshma (name changed), a 21-year-old M.A. Economics student at the prestigious SRCC. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh but originally from Kerala, Reshma has lived in the state for almost entirely of her life.

Reshma has a supportive and loving family environment and shares a special bond with her sibling. She describes her home as a safe haven that helped her grow as an individual.

“My hobbies range from dancing, reading books and listening to good music. I’m the happiest when I indulge myself in these activities!”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many students in Reshma’s college faced significant mental health challenges. It was during this difficult time that she heard about YourDOST through her college, which partners with the platform to support students’ mental health.

“I met my counsellor, Sakshi Bohra on the platform and instantly connected with her as her soothing voice was very reassuring and encouraging. She was extremely empathetic and a great listener, which helped me reflect on myself.”

Reshma initially sought YourDOST’s help for career guidance with questions about her future. She came to YourDOST with the most burning questions about what’s next in her career and education.

As her final year at college neared, Reshma felt overwhelmed by the decision of whether to pursue a career or further education in economics, a field she was not particularly passionate about. Fortunately, Ms Sakshi helped Reshma unravel her doubts and clarify her career goals.

“She helped me unwind all the doubts in my mind and with Sakshi’s guidance, I found it easier to prepare for various competitive exams with a clear mind without confusion and fear.”

In addition to career guidance, Reshma also sought help for relationship issues as she needed a third-person view of her relationship concerns. Reshma learned to navigate these challenges healthily and empoweringly with Ms Sakshi.

“I was sure that the relationship wasn’t going well and I needed to step back without giving an explanation. Sakshi also helped me with friendship-related concerns, particularly around setting boundaries and learning to say no.”

Sakshi introduced Reshma to several techniques to manage her concerns effectively. One such technique involved drawing concentric circles and practising saying no at certain points which helped Reshma become comfortable with asserting herself. Another technique was brain dumping, which involved writing down her thoughts to clear her mind.

“My friends noticed that I became a better listener, more empathetic, and at peace. I could now analyse each situation and take one thing at a time without overwhelming myself.”

Reshma feels immense gratitude towards Sakshi in her journey till today.

“Thank you for being a good listener and inspiring me to be empathetic. I will always be grateful towards her for being there for me and understanding me even when we don’t know each other personally.”

Today, Reshma rates herself 4 out of 5 in terms of feeling better and envisions improvement as having a less messy head of thoughts.

We at YourDOST are confident that Reshma is well on her way to achieving her goals and wish her the best in all her future endeavours!
