Rebuilding Life from A Lost Connection: Mahesh’s Story of Healing

4 minutes

A bond forms between two persons, not based on the time they have been together, nor on any other factor other than love and understanding. However, when the same bond breaks, it can feel like the end of the world. This may seem prevalent forever but with time, all wounds heal.

Meet Mahesh (name changed), a 33-year-old from Haryana, who works at DLF in the developing department.

He had always been close to his family and grew up in a middle-class home with two siblings. Despite not being wealthy, his parents provided everything they needed, fostering a deep and loving bond between the family members.

“I had a happy childhood only because of my parents who made sure we had everything we wanted. My siblings and I share a special connection and are there for each other at all times.”

Even with a fulfilling career and strong family ties, Mahesh faced personal challenges in his life. His love for photography and photo editing had taken a backseat over time, but he still enjoyed walks, healthy eating, and family time.

Mahesh’s life took a turn during the COVID-19 pandemic when he entered a matrimonial alliance. The relationship was built over 7-8 months of phone calls and seemed promising at first. Their families even met and hoped to make the alliance formal. However, practicalities and differing thoughts between the families caused the relationship to fall apart.

“The attachment we had built over months vanished, leaving me devastated. The loss felt like a void, affecting my mental and physical health. I realised that life doesn’t always go as planned, and this realisation took a toll on my well-being.”

Feeling isolated and overwhelmed, Mahesh heard about YourDOST through his company, which partnered with them as their official mental health provider. He connected with a counsellor over the platform and sought help for his concerns.

“My counsellor was very calm and attentive from the first session. She listened to all my concerns without interruption, understanding my issues deeply.”

Mahesh’s counsellor introduced him to techniques like journaling, but he found it challenging to focus on these practices due to his mental state. Instead, he found solace in talking about his problems.

“I was more keen on sharing my issues. I needed someone to hear me out.”

Over time, Mahesh began noticing positive changes. Even though he knows that he still has a long way to go in his healing journey, the comfort of having someone listen to him is significant.

“Life is unpredictable, and sometimes things don’t work out and that is ok because I think I’m now better prepared to face tough times. The support I received helped me see that even when things seem dark, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.”

Mahesh expressed his deep gratitude for his counsellor’s unwavering support. He thanks her for being there for him when life threw obstacles in his path and says that the support he received has been invaluable.

Mahesh rates himself in terms of feeling better as 3 out of 5 and believes it is just a stepping stone towards a better journey. For him, improvement means achieving his life’s purpose, regardless of the path. His journey reminds us that even in the darkest times, there is always a way forward.

YourDOST is proud to be a part of his healing process and wishes him continued growth and success in the future!
