IN BRIEF: In this post we address tips for positive body image. We look at how our society perceives body image, how we assess it.
Maintaining a positive body image is a challenge in itself, especially when media keeps encouraging us on the so called perfect bodies and endorse products which promise fairer skin tone and zero sizes and six pack abs.
How we perceive our body won’t change in one day, it will take time, patience and willingness to change is vital.
Here Are Some Tips For Maintaining A Healthy Body Image
Acceptance:
Our bodies are of different sizes and shapes and no one is perfect. Some are upset because they tall, while some sulk because they are short. Some want put on weight while others want to lose. Treat your body with kindness and respect and it will help you back. It’s up to you to decide how you wish to spend your energy: on pursuing perfect image or would you rather stay healthy and enjoy company and positive things in your life?
Diet:
How you look (thin or fat) can also be because of the diet you follow. Unhealthy eating habits such as skipping meals, gobbling junk food can either cause weight loss or gain. If you notice you have not been able to manage your weight according to your height i.e. BMI is out of scale, consult doctor/dietician for proper diet plan and health supplements.
Genes:
A lot of traits you might have inherited from your family, so accept and value your genes they are like a family stamp. Love them as you love your family.
Whole As A Person – When you look at yourself in the mirror or think about yourself then focus on “You” as a person rather than focusing on body parts. See yourself as you would like others to see you.
Self Help:
There are number of books and videos available available on body image and Self-acceptance. Focus more on how you speak and interact with others. Positive self-talk is another way to help yourself and stop the negative self – talk that says you are a “bad” person and next time you start to tear down build yourself back up with few affirmations that work for you.
Dressing Up:
Focus on the way you dress up and carry yourself. Wear clothes which suits your body type and are comfortable to wear. Change your haircut, get a haircut or style which suits your face. Style yourself with trendy accessories, there are number of accessories available for both men and women from spectacles to bands etc. These can bring a lot of confidence in you.
Self Care:
Pampering yourself makes you feel good. The better you feel, more likely you’ll be motivated to keep making positive changes.
Make A List:
Make a list of your positive qualities/traits/skills, paste them in your room near the mirror. Read them every day also make a list of skills you would like to learn and keep adding new things to it.
Stop Comparing Yourself To Others:
Everyone has something they wish they could change, stop comparing yourself to others and try to be critical about social media and messages. Remember everyone is unique in their own ways.
Surround Yourself With Positive People
It is easier to feel happy and confident when people around you are much more positive and appreciate you. Be with people who are helpful and with whom you can exchange knowledge , tips etc.
