Chakravarthi’s Journey Through Grief And Self-Discovery With Counseling

4 minutes

Chakravarthi, a 29-year-old Senior Engineer at Tech Mahindra, hails from the coastal city of Vizag. He enjoys watching movies and listening to songs to unwind and find joy amidst life’s ups and downs.

He comes from a family of four, which includes his father, mother, and sister. Chakravarthi fondly recalls a playful and eventful childhood. Growing up, his home was bustling with six family members, including his grandparents, creating a nurturing and lively atmosphere.

He explains that he was lucky enough to spend quality time with his grandparents until he graduated. Chakravarthi took a significant step in his personal life, and he got married.

Yet, despite these milestones, his journey has been marked by emotional challenges due to a series of problems he had to face. The root of his struggles began with profound grief after the loss of his father. This event shook his world and stirred family conflicts involving religious and property disputes.

As the only male in the family, Chakravarthi felt immense pressure and responsibility, which often left him emotionally unstable and overwhelmed with recurring negative thoughts.

“I was stuck, constantly battling sadness and anger. These emotions kept following me, and I couldn’t control the loop of thoughts in my mind. There was no stability.”

Before his father’s passing, Chakravarthi had already sought therapy to cope with workplace stress, but the emotional turmoil after losing his father was on a different level. Recollecting how counseling became a lifeline earlier, he decided to seek therapy again and discover his inner strength.

Chakravarthi recalled his first exposure to the YourDOST platform through his workplace. He attended self-help sessions for employees, where they were briefed about the availability of counseling services through their tie-up.

Although initially sceptical and searching for more experienced guidance, Chakravarthi met several counselors before connecting deeply with Anita Eliza, a senior therapist whose insights resonated with him.

He explains that she understood his problems in depth and gave him the support he needed. His therapy sessions were often solution-focused and individualised as he wanted a problem-solving approach. The counselor also suggested he practice listing out his negative thoughts to confront and unravel them. He says the approach was methodical and dealing with one problem at a time provided practical guidance to manage his emotions and challenges.

While he didn’t experience any sudden transformation, Chakravarthi emphasises that therapy strengthened his inner foundation over time. He says that he takes detailed notes during sessions, which helps him reinforce the insights and coping strategies his counselors shared.

This internal growth enhanced his ability to face problems from different perspectives, slowly but surely. The change became long-term and made him stronger.

“As the sessions proceeded, my problem-solving ability increased. My perspectives broadened, and I slowly began applying the techniques I learned from therapy.”

Reaping the benefits of therapy, Chakravarthi expresses his gratitude to his counselors. He shares that he respects the profession deeply, acknowledging their role in helping people overcome difficult situations.

He confidently gives himself a steady 4 out of 5, reflecting a consistent improvement in his mental health and coping ability. We appreciate his understanding that healing is an ongoing process, and we hope he reaches his intended destination.

Chakravarthi’s Warrior Tips:
1.“The most complex and vital step is to realise you need help. Many people deny it, but accepting is a courageous and critical move.”
2.“It is imperative to ask for help; you can get support from the right people if you do!”
3.“Trusting your counselor and being transparent with them for effective results.”
