Ritam Deb is a 26-year-old corporate employee at a fintech. He currently lives in Mumbai, the vibrant metropolis and city of dreams. He used to work as an analyst at Vendanta.
Ritam was born and raised in Kolkata and spent 22 years of his life there. It was only after that that he shifted to a city outside his native state. Ritam comes from a close-knit nuclear family.
Ritam explains that he has always paid close attention to details and can stay focused for a long time. When it comes to hobbies, Ritam says he has had many shifts throughout his life.
He used to be interested in sports like badminton and water polo. However, due to a ligament tear, he had to give up on these interests, and he found an interest in wildlife photography. As he grew up, Ritam started being more self-aware about everything.
As he proceeded with his career plans, after completing a year with Vendanta, there was a sudden change in team dynamics which led to lot of confusions for Ritam. It felt like an obstacle to his plans for his future. This restructuring made him and his previous teammates anxious, raising several question marks for Ritam.
He recalled his experience with the YourDOST platform in 2022. He had taken a few session at that time, when they were briefed about the company’s subscription to the platform in the introductory session.
Ritam discontinued the sessions, as the situation eventually helped him resolve the issues. He thought of giving therapy another try, as he wanted to prioritise his career and make sure it went smoothly. He restarted his sessions with a counselor available on the platform, and he was delighted with her approach.
“The counselor and I had a lot of conversations; she gave me the right kind of triggers towards finding the answers to the obsessive thoughts I was having.”
Ritam shared with the counselor his concerns about the delay in his appraisal, alongside the confusion from the change in his team dynamics. He explained to her how much it was disturbing him, as he spent most of his time and energy on these thoughts. Understanding Ritam’s overthinking patterns, the counselor taught him a few techniques to help him feel in touch with the present rather than worrying about the future.

She also helped him practice mindfulness and made him meditate regularly. Eventually, they also worked on some harmful coping mechanisms he developed, as they had adverse effects on his mental and physical health.
She introduced him to a book called ‘How I Want to Change My Life’ by Stephen M, which he sees as a valuable addition to date. They also discussed his challenges in a new city, and he didn’t have many friends. Eventually, he realised that he didn’t have stress over these situations.
“All these discussions and catching up once a week for the sessions played a role in my healing process. It was mentally refreshing, and I felt safe opening up about everything to the counselor.”
Ritam explains that he used to have sleepless nights, where he couldn’t sleep for 3 to 4 days for a week. He says he can finally get rid of the obsessive thoughts and get a sound sleep every day. It also led to him having control over his anxiety issues, which he considers a positive effect of therapy.
He says that the sessions helped him overcome his dilemmas and made him understand the confusions were just temporary. He expresses that it made him more optimistic and helped him progress in his life and career.
As he moves forward in life, he thanks his counselor for helping me get through his issues, and Ritam rates himself 3.5 out of 5. We hope he attains the financial stability, good sleep, and happiness he wishes for.
Ritam Deb’s Warrior Tips:
1.“Talking to a friend is good, but a professional therapist can offer opinions and guidance on your issues, rather than just consoling you.”
2.“Trust the therapy process; it will be helpful in the long run.”
