Unfolding Wings And Embracing Positivity and Confidence Through Counseling: This is Megha’s Story.

4 minutes

Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, Megha is a 23-year-old extraordinary young individual, passionate about helping others. A metaphor, much like the graceful unfolding of wings, encapsulates her inspiring tale of resilience, self-discovery, and transformation she experienced.

She pursued her MTech from Vellore Institute of Technology and works in a product-based company. She enjoys doodling and sketching in her free time and finds solace in the art of creation.

With a burning drive to make a difference in the world, Megha enjoys volunteering in various NGOs and engaging in other outdoor activities.

However, as she grew older and navigated through her life, she felt confused about her path for her future. The weight of the expectations from those around her and the uncertainty of her career left her feeling trapped within the confines of her mind.

“I do not share very often with my friends and my family. I usually keep my feelings to myself, but over time, it became a burden for me to carry.”

Our college years present us with difficult decisions to pave the way for our future. Megha mentioned that she felt overwhelmed by the thought of her future career since she had so many interests and didn’t know what to pursue.

During a college fest at Vellore Institute of Technology, Megha stumbled upon YourDOST, a platform that would soon play a pivotal role in her life. With courage, she took her first step into the world of counseling, challenging the stigma that often shrouds it.

“I’m used to hearing a lot of negative opinions about counseling. Though I was sceptical at first, I’ve never regretted taking that step and booking my first session.”

Here’s where she met her counselor, Ms. Mehek. With her empathetic nature and attentive ear, Ms. Mehek encouraged Megha to unfold her wings at her own pace. She helped Megha break free from the anxiety and self-doubt she was battling quietly.

As the counseling sessions progressed, Megha’s once overwhelming anxiety began to lose its grip on her.

“Ms. Mehek helped me realise it’s okay to feel overwhelmed sometimes. I learned that expressing my emotions is a sign of strength, rather than weakness.”

Through her counselor’s guidance, Megha not only gained confidence in her decision-making but also began to trust herself more. The shell of self-doubt began to crack, revealing the vibrant colours of her true self.

She no longer sought validation from others when she made decisions; she realized the power to shape her destiny rested within her heart and mind. With newfound confidence, she spread her wings and embraced the freedom of self-expression.

“The impact that Ms. Mehek had on me is something I am immensely grateful for. She has helped me discover a new perspective, making me feel more hopeful about the future.”

Megha’s experience serves as a reminder that kindness and empathy can change the course of one’s life. Ms. Mehek’s presence was like the nurturing rain that allowed the seeds of Megha’s self-doubt to blossom into confidence.

Perhaps the most profound lesson Megha imparts is that counseling is not a sign of weakness but a beacon of hope. Her journey reminds us that we all have the potential to grow if we acknowledge that we need help sometimes.

She rates herself a 4 out of 5 in terms of feeling better. She has found stability and regained control over her emotions. The best part of her counseling journey, she says, was the overwhelming relief she felt. We wish her all the very best for a bright future ahead!
