Living Life on His Terms With Confidence: Akshit’s Journey with Therapy

4 minutes

Life isn’t always like a feel-good movie where everything works out in the end. Sometimes, it’s more like the rollercoaster twists in a Christopher Nolan film. When faced with tough choices and family drama, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and alone. However, just like in every great story, finding the right guide or mentor can make all the difference, turning chaos into a journey of self-discovery and growth.

Meet Akshit, a 21-year-old BCA graduate from the prestigious Benette University. Originally, from Ludhiana, Punjab, he was brought up in the capital city of Delhi. He is currently working in the IT sector, leading a peaceful life with its share of ups and downs.

While growing up Akshit experienced a normal childhood but faced challenges every now and then. He wasn’t particularly close to any of his family and this lack of bonding between family members added to his sense of isolation.

Despite these challenges, Akshit found solace in his passions and hobbies.

“I love travelling and reading books and doing other activities that provide me with an escape and a sense of peace.”

However, gradually, the unresolved issues with his family began to take a toll on his mental well-being which affected his education and decision-making process in the longer run.

It was during his college time at Benette University that Akshit first learned about YourDOST, his college’s official mental health partner. He reached out to the platform seeking help and was connected with Kartikey Jharial, his counsellor.

Akshit recalls his first impression of Kartikey as being extremely positive.

“Kartikey became my mentor and guide in no time and provided me with the support I desperately needed. The sessions were interactive, and Kartikey’s cordial and pleasant demeanour helped me feel comfortable discussing my concerns.”

At the time, Akshit was struggling with some concerns in his life and therapy helped me immensely. He had a couple of big and life-altering decisions to make and felt confused and extremely overwhelmed. Therapy helped him get a third-person perspective on his concerns.

Akshit’s sessions with Kartikey involved various activities and techniques designed to improve his mental health. These included meditation and welfare practices for mental peace, as well as journaling and breathing exercises. These practices helped Akshit analyze his issues more effectively and develop coping mechanisms.

“Talking about my concerns and sharing opinions helped me figure out things in a much easier way. My counselor engaged in interactive sessions with me which helped me feel comfortable about talking about my issues.”

Through therapy, Akshit experienced significant positive changes in his life. He began to feel more motivated and lighter after each session. The guidance and support provided by Kartikey played a crucial role in Akshit’s recovery and he is extremely grateful for the same.

“Kartikeya was extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to helping me out. I could sense the concern for me. I’m extremely grateful for him as he guided me well and I recovered faster than expected.”

Akshit rates his progress a perfect 5 out of 5 and views improvement as an ongoing journey. He believes that moving forward, no matter what, is the key to personal growth and fulfilment.

“I realised early on in the sessions that rather than being the backseat driver of my life and letting someone else take control, I just needed to know the routes well so that I could take the wheel in my hands.”

We are confident that with his determination and the support of his counsellor, Akshit is on the path to achieving great things and we at YourDOST could not be more proud of him!

Akshit’s Warrior Tips:
1.“While feeling low or depressed, always believe in yourself and start learning or doing something new and stay engaged.”
