Puneet, a 28-year-old employee, has been in the IT industry for five years now. He pursued his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology.
He was born and raised in Kota, Rajasthan, in a family of five, which includes his parents, an older sister, and an older brother. He was close to his elder sister till she got married and moved out. He explains that he used to be the shy and introverted kid who focused more on academics.
Once Puneet joined college, his personality changed, and he started socialising well with people of his own age. He pursued his interests in sports, such as cricket, badminton, and table tennis, in his free time, and also learned to play the guitar. Although he started thriving in college, Puneet also faced multiple challenges at the same time.
Puneet performed well in academics, but towards the placements, he started feeling anxious. He elaborates that facing continuous rejections from multiple companies broke his confidence and impacted his mental health.
Upon recalling an email from his college regarding their subscription to the YourDOST platform to provide counseling services to students for free, Puneet decided to approach the experts available on the platform.
He started his sessions with Ms Ishita Attri, and he recollects feeling calmer after sharing everything with her. He expressed to the counselor how even his circadian rhythm had been disturbed due to the pressure he was putting on himself. This also led to him being unfocused and hyperactive at times.

The counselor suggested that Puneet practice mindfulness and meditation to calm down in times of stress. She also helped him to adapt to a journaling practice, such as gratitude journaling. She gave him some self-help book suggestions to read during his free time.
Apart from these, she helped Puneet identify the times he had dealt with issues in the past and how he had handled them. This activity helped Puneet to change his mindset about his capability and rewire his thought patterns.
Slowly but gradually, he felt his thought process shift, and he regained his confidence. He learned to be patient and calm in a stressful situation, and also understood the ways he could cope with them.
He thanks his counselor for bringing his mind from the negative patterns to the positive side and for teaching him to find inner peace even in a chaotic external environment. He rates himself 4.5 out of 5, and we wish him all the best for his personal and professional developments.
Puneet’s Warrior Tips:
1.“Try not to pressure yourself on things that are just a small part of life. Take one step at a time and be kind to yourself.”
2.“Students should prioritise their mental health above all.”
