Anand’s Tale Of Commencing His Wellness Journey Through Counseling

3 minutes

Anand (name changed) is a 30-year-old software engineer at Sony India Software.

His family includes his parents, grandparents, and two elder sisters. Anand adds that he is a selective extrovert and keeps to himself when he feels the other person doesn’t understand his point of view.

Anand explains that his parents and grandparents quarrelled frequently when he was a kid, which affected his childhood. Anand has always excelled in academics while also performing well in extracurriculars.

He shares that after moving to college, Anand started feeling that he had no focus in life. He couldn’t pay attention to his career and his professional life.

Since his college didn’t have a counseling facility, Anand couldn’t handle the issue. When he started working, he found himself unable to complete his tasks and often feeling distracted. He noticed the emails regarding his company’s subscription to YourDOST through the emails from his company.

Anand recollects that when his mom took him to a therapy session when he was a kid, people were judgmental, and he couldn’t continue beyond a session. Thinking about his past experience, he felt that online counseling would be a better idea for dealing with his situation and started taking sessions with the experts available on the platform.

“I felt weak and miserable as I couldn’t even control my routine. I had struggled with it for a long time, so I wanted to make it a priority and fix it.”

Anand found the counselors friendly and helpful. They helped him examine the negative patterns in his thought process. He elaborates that the sessions felt like ranting to a friend, and he didn’t fear judgment.

The counselor also educated him on how mental health works and how he can rewire his thought process. This made Anand more aware of his issues and more empathetic. He adds that it also gave him a subtle boost in his confidence.

Eventually, Anand broke the constraint about people’s opinions on therapy and started reaching out to the face-to-face counselors available in his locality. He thanks YourDOST for providing him with a platform that gave him the start to his well-being journey.

As Anand rates himself 2 out of 5, he continues to work on his journey towards attaining a state of mind that safeguards him emotionally. We wish him all the best and are happy to be a small part of his terrific journey of wellness.

Anand’s Warrior Tips:
