Saurav’s Uplifting Story Of How He Managed His Anxiety With Therapy.

3 minutes

The embodiment of all things pure,” said Rudyard Kipling about the Taj Mahal. A land that sits in the Yamuna River holds heritages that have withstood time and calamities as the city of Agra where Saurav hails from. He lives with his parents who are professors, and his brother is in the Army.

Saurav is a 24-year-old young-spirited  man who finished his B.Tech in Civil Engineering from KIET and is working in an organisation that he recently joined.

He is an extrovert who enjoys socialising and holds a great interest in martial arts and recreational shooting activities.

“I had a decent childhood, there were good and bad days. It was quite a challenge to handle social relationships. I remember growing up having limited friends and would have to do most of the things by myself.”

Saurav explains that things were smooth for a while for him. However, he had a tough time handling his temper and it would take shape in different ways, and he wanted to control it but always found it challenging.

Being young was hard for him as he mentioned how he had to do it all by himself. Growing up in a house with his mom who was a submissive person had its problems as he had to always approach her before approaching the others as he was close to her.

Family relationships are something that is always evolving and individuals take time to relate with each other.

Saurav mentioned that after his brother got married his sister-in-law moved into their house. As she is somebody new, adjusting to the environment usually takes time.

“I could never relate to her, and it used to mostly invite a lot of trouble between the family and this would leave me distressed. I was exposed to jealousy, misunderstandings and betrayals at the end of the day.”

It is quite interesting to think about when help comes our way, and it was a similar situation with Saurav.

“I decided to seek therapy to discuss with all that was spurring at home after our college had an orientation with the representatives from YourDOST of the different services offered.”

Saurav articulates that handling anxiety became difficult every day, and it was at this time did he make an effort to understand that he needed to start doing things for his mental health also.

We as individuals at times miss paying attention to how we feel internally, and this affects us. Saurav decided to book his first session with Ms. Aakriti Sharma.

“Ms. Aakriti is a very down to earth person with whom I established a great connection with, and I am very glad I spoke to her as she helped me understand things with a healthy mindset.”

Saurav explains his counselor suggested a few techniques like Breathing and relaxation techniques. By following these techniques he was able to curb his negative thinking pattern and also improve his sleep cycle.

Saurav wishes to express a few words of gratitude:

“Thank you so much for being patient and empathetic towards my feelings and validating them. You have always encouraged me, and I am extremely glad we crossed paths.”

On a scale of 1 to 5 in terms of feeling better, Saurav rated himself with a 3.5. We wish him all the more success with everything that he does.
