Arjun’s Journey Of Balancing His Emotions And Academics Through Counseling

3 minutes

Arjun is a senior manager at a corporate firm in Mumbai. He pursued his PGDM in Business Management from XLRI, Delhi.

When Arjun was a kid, the family moved cities because of his father’s nature of work and he explains that he was a shy kid growing up, and his sister, who is 12 years older than him, has always been his immediate guardian apart from his parents.

“I’m more perceptive about emotions than others because I was close to my sister throughout childhood. She was my constant support through every phase of my growth.”

After finishing college, Arjun worked in a government job before deciding to switch career paths and joined XLRI for postgraduate studies. Over the days, he found the curriculum heavy and demanding, and the people were competitive with each other. Dealing with a hectic schedule, he was also going through a rough patch in his relationship.

Through his regularly received emails, he learned about his college’s collaboration with YourDOST and decided to seek help again. He started connecting with the experts available on the platform and found them to be friendly.

“The counselors were ready to listen and empathetic. They tried as much as to understand the background of my issues before heading further into the discussion.”

Arjun eventually connected with Ms Sudipta Mithra and continued taking sessions with her. He expressed his issues to the counselor and informed her that he was looking for a third-person perspective on how to deal with them without letting his emotions get in the way.

He spoke about the difficulties he was facing with his partner being in a long-distance relationship and the group dynamics with his batchmates regarding academics.

“The counselor asked me the right questions, which helped me gain insights about my emotions and actions.”

Arjun elaborates that during the sessions, he allowed himself to check his communication styles, behaviour patterns, and thought processes. The counselor also recommended some videos and podcasts, which Arjun found to be interesting and gave him a different perspective.

Ms Sudipta helped Arjun see things logically and also suggested that Arjun take up journaling every day, not just to report the events of day-to-day activities but also to focus on the way he processes every emotion.

“All the techniques were extremely effective and helped me gain clarity. It also gave that safe space to speak out those things and feelings that we hesitate to talk to people about.”

As he improved himself holistically, Arjun thanks his counselor for being an amazing listener and for helping him expand his horizons. He rates himself 4 out of 5, and we are happy to be a part of his journey.

Arjun’s Warrior Tips:
1.“When you see an issue with your mental health, you reach out to a counselor; break out of the taboos.”
2.“Therapy isn’t just for clinical situations; it can be a mechanism for processing emotions and thoughts.”
