Jaspreet’s Story of Laying The Keystone for a Better Life for Herself With Therapy

6 minutes

Everyone has experiences in their lives that test their patience and strength, but it is in these very moments that our true selves emerge. Meet Jaspreet, a 33-year-old ex-employee in the technology department at Birlasoft who went on a journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth during one of the most difficult times of her life.

After being born and raised in Chhattisgarh, Jaspreet built her career in Bangalore but returned to her hometown during the pandemic. The move brought unexpected changes, setting the stage for a significant transformation.

Jaspreet’s life brimmed with hobbies that brought her joy. She loved guiding students, teaching, dancing, drawing, and taking long walks. However, beneath all these happy experiences, there was a story that needed to be heard.

Marriage is often seen as a new beginning of an eternity of love between two people, but for Jaspreet, it was an unexpected chapter that ended almost as quickly as it began, and I do not have any fond memories to cherish it as well.

“I got married and divorced in a short period. My relationship did not offer me any happiness, and it ended abruptly. I was at a very low point in my life.”

The sudden shift in her life left her grappling with emotions she never understood. Jaspreet knew she needed help but was unsure where to turn.

It was around this difficult time that she heard about YourDOST from her ex-employer. The company partnered with the organisation, offering mental health support to its employees, and she decided to give it a try.

Therapy can feel intimidating, especially when you’re already feeling vulnerable. However, Jaspreet’s experience with her counsellor, Mr Jacob Justin, was anything but the same.

“I had consulted other counsellors before, and I realised that these professionals truly understand how to deal with issues that may feel overwhelming to us. The listening skills are commendable. I was in awe of how they listened patiently and attentively, making us feel comfortable.”

Therapy provided a safe space where she could confront the emotions that had been haunting her since the separation. She began understanding the consequences of her emotions shadowing her from time to time and decided to move away from the shadow into the sunlight of acceptance.

“The fact that the separation was good for my future took time to sink in. Healing was slower than I hoped, but therapy taught me that time is a crucial factor. The support I received was like dressing a wound; it didn’t erase the pain immediately, but it helped it heal faster.”

The therapy sessions weren’t just about Jaspreet talking to the counsellor. Mr Justin introduced Jaspreet to practical techniques that she could incorporate into her daily life. Journaling became her sanctuary, a place where she could pour out her emotions without judgment.

Alongside this, relaxation techniques, stretching exercises, and natural remedies suggested by her counsellor helped ease her anxiety and even relieved the physical aches that often came with her emotional stress.

Gradually, Jaspreet began to see positive changes. Meditation, in particular, became a powerful tool in helping her regain control over her thoughts and emotions.

“I started to understand that time is a big healer and facing whatever comes is part of life. It’s okay to feel low sometimes; not every day needs to be perfect.”

What truly shifted her perspective was the realisation that every experience, even the painful ones, had a purpose. She gained clarity on how her life only turned for the better after going through experiences that were hurtful and taught her lessons that she will cherish forever.

“Slowly, I realised that everything that happened had a reason to manifest in my life.”

This acceptance of her experiences and emotions became her strength, teaching her that grieving and allowing oneself to feel sadness is a vital part of the healing process. She learned to be kind to herself and embrace both the highs and lows gracefully.

Looking back, Jaspreet is deeply grateful for the guidance and support she received from her counsellors. She is deeply thankful to everyone who helped her overcome a difficult phase of life.

“I didn’t know there were underlying issues in my ex-partner, and my counsellor helped me identify them. It saved me from enduring a lot more pain in the future. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their constant encouragement.”

Jaspreet’s journey reminds us that even in our darkest moments, there’s always a way to find enlightenment, and sometimes, it just takes a little guidance to get there.

Hence, in terms of feeling better, she rates herself as four on five and envisions improvement as self-betterment. Today, she’s a living example of the benefits of therapy, and we at YourDOST couldn’t be more proud of her!

Jaspreet’s Warrior Tips:
1.“Sharing your concerns can lighten your burden, but we should also be aware of the other person’s mental space before pouring out our emotions.”
2.“Therapy from experienced professionals is key. I’m living proof that it works, and more people should be aware of this.”
3.“Happiness isn’t the only emotion that matters. Feeling sad and grieving are part of a healthy healing process. It’s okay not to be okay sometimes.”
