“Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but rising every time we fall”- Confucius.
Rising every time we fail is a cliche quote that has lost its glory after being repeated numerous times, but hasn’t lost its deep meaning. Failing doesn’t affect you, but rising again makes the difference. Meet Preeti (name changed), a Btech Biotech student at Lovely Professional University, who is a testament to the given examples.
Preeti had a happy and stable childhood and was studious as a child while growing up. The relationships we form early on in life make us the person we are today and Preeti’s relationship with her family explains her happy childhood.
“I shared a deep and cordial relationship with my parents and only have fond, loving memories of spending time with my friends, family and siblings.”
After completing her school life, she stepped into the vast world of professional studies and was delighted to hear the workshops, seminars and email announcements her college would conduct to orient students about mental health.
Preeti’s institute has collaborated with the YourDOST platform as their official mental health partner, and here she met Ms Kausalya, who went on to become her therapist.
“By the time I found Ms Kousalya, I was dragged deep into the pits of depression. Speaking to her helped me open a new door towards hope and healing. She used to challenge with questions and we would end up having deep conversations which helped me in the long run. She was solution-oriented, and patient and helped me stop my assumption and break my negative thinking pattern.”
Before approaching YourDOST, Preeti had been administering medications and sough offline therapeutic sessions with her then psychologist. After taking the medication for some time, she discontinued the prescription and started being without it. Hell broke loose when she began experiencing the same issues after some months and started feeling extremely low again.
“I began feeling low and started experiencing the same symptoms as earlier. The after-effects hit me hard and that is when I remembered my psychologist advising me to go to a counsellor if anything happens again, and I found myself on the doorstep of YourDOST.”
Ms Kousalya and Preeti worked together to help her find her way out of the tangled mess of mental concerns Preeti experienced. Gradually she bounced back, felt confident in herself again and began concentrating on her studies as well.
“Ms Koushalya advised that I find my area of interest and grow by working on it. My relationship with my mother started improving way better than earlier and I couldn’t be happier.”
Initially, Preeti was underconfident about her improvement and didn’t believe that changes would reveal themselves in the way of the journey. Ms Koushalya helped her with worksheets and assessments that helped her anchor her emotions well.
“I’m eternally grateful towards Ms Koushalya for being there at my side when I couldn’t even understand myself. Thank you so much for listening to my feelings that usually extended the 45-minute line and being the compassionate person that you are, I am blessed.”
Preeti had fallen in her journey of life once, got back on her feet, tumbled again and got back once more, proving that nothing can deter her from her goals and passion towards life. She rates herself a solid 4 out of 5 in terms of feeling better and envisions improvement as going on no matter what.
Preeti’s life journey is a testament to the fact that until you decide the end line, the race goes on! We at YourDOST are honoured to be a part of her journey and wish her all the best in her future endeavours!
