Weekends: Why We Should Unwind

4 minutes

IN BRIEF: There is no balance between personal and professional lives. We work for 5 or 6 days and rest for the only day we get. This is not balance. And is the precise reason why we should make weekends count. In this post we see why it is important to unwind and relax.

Until the age of 24 (on average) almost all we do is study and accumulate knowledge so as to get a job and be able to support ourselves and our loved ones. Now, that doesn’t mean that we love all aspects of our job. We love parts of it and others we do just for the sake of it. All this results in piling up of stress and pressure, which as everyone understands, is not good for our health. So every once in a while, it’s absolutely necessary to switch off a little bit and relax.

Balance Work And Relaxation

Many a times, when we’re exhausted from work, we end up doing even more work because there’s always a never ending pile of it. Often we also think that in a fast world like today’s, we don’t deserve a break. But this only causes our bodies to give up completely after a certain point. Just like the way it’s considered important to be active and work, it’s also equally important to rest a little. When I say relax, I don’t mean you take days off of work. No, you just set aside time for relaxation at regular intervals.

“The good news is that we can do a lot over the weekend to make ourselves happier just by doing ordinary things,” says Simone Comtesse from Mentally Healthy WA at Curtin University“. “And there is an ongoing bonus: many of the things that make us truly happy also make us more mentally healthy and better able to cope with life’s stresses”.

Still Not Convinced? Here Are Some Reasons Why You Should Relax A Little

De-stress: No matter how much you love your job, there are times when too much work causes you to lose motivation. When this becomes a routine, that is when the warning bells start ringing! It’s important to take time out from your work schedule so that you return to your work with a fresh outlook.

Get Creative: Creative people almost always function better in a laid-back environment because allows their brains to jump from thought to thought without any pressure or particular guideline. While sticking to deadlines may seem productive at first, it tends to lose steam after a while.

Evaluate and Assess: Relaxation time is also important because it allows you to evaluate your own progress and work in an objective manner. You can see your own achievements and mistakes in a clearer light.

Celebrate: Celebrating your own achievements can be a rewarding experience in itself. Take some time out every once in a while and treat yourself to a nice meal or spa or anything that you’ve had your eye on for a while. It will motivate you to work harder.

Rejuvenate: Sitting at the same desk in the same office with the same people tend to get old really soon. If you feel like you’re in a rut that you just can’t seem to shake off, then get away from your drab surroundings and rejuvenate your core. Going on a small vacation when you feel depleted will only help you!
