Is Masturbation Associated With Anger?

2 minutes

Masturbation is the process where a person touches his or her own genitals to get sexual pleasure. This act is normal when one is sexually aroused, but does not have an opportunity to have sex. It is also normal for smaller children to masturbate as they are exploring their bodies and finding pleasure.

Masturbation is directly associated with sexual stimulation and pleasure. Although, there are psychological and physiological benefits to masturbation. When we masturbate, like during sex, our sexual organs (Penis/Clitoris) are filled with blood vessels and hence we feel an arousal or erection. When we reach orgasm and ejaculate, the blood flows out from these organs and we feel a release of some tension. This helps us to release the stress from the body during the period of arousal and reaching the peak. It also helps release Oxitocin in the blood that makes us feel happy. This is one of the reasons why it is possible to forget all our worries and stress during and after reaching an orgasm.

Research shows that at least 4 out of 10 men have masturbated when they had feelings of anger. And all men have at least sometime in their lives, masturbated when they have felt stress, anger or anxiety. Women who masturbate are less likely to feel prolonged stress and are more stable in their over all mood levels. However, this area still needs substantial research. Masturbation may not be directly associated with anger, however, it is likely that women and especially men, would indulge in the process to release their stress.

It is observed that masturbating  is culturally  seen in different ways. Depending on the culture one belongs to, and the beliefs held by the broader set of society, masturbation can sometimes be seen as a damned and sinful act. When a person holding such beliefs indulges in the act, feelings of guilt, remorse and anger towards self in generated.   Therefore, anger may sometimes be the cause of the act itself and may not necessarily be the reason to masturbate.

To conclude,  I would like to add that masturbation is a natural process, however it needs to be practiced only when necessary and required by the body. More indulgence in this practice may lead to obsession. It should be used to fulfill sexual pleasure, however, it is seen to relieve emotional stress of the person involved.
