Yash’s Tale Of Contemplating His Core Thoughts Through Counseling

3 minutes

Yash is a 26-year-old corporate employee who completed his Bachelor’s in technology from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT).

He was born and raised in a Tier 2 city and explains that he has always been ambitious and determined to reach heights in life. He also has a great interest in sports and music, which he enjoys in his free time.

Yash elaborates that even though he is in a good place in his life, during college, he had to cross certain hurdles that helped him develop into the person he is today. He was concerned about his individual progress and felt the need to talk to a professional about the same.

As his college had a tie-up with YourDOST as part of the student well-being, Yash started paying attention to the emails regarding the platform and began using the resources. He adds that during the initial days, he felt resistant and skipped a few sessions as he was sceptical.

“When I first sought therapy, I was apprehensive. I remember going through all the profiles of the counselors and being in a dilemma about who would be the right fit for me. Analysing the credibility, I eventually narrowed down my choices.”

Gradually, Yash started showing up regularly and sitting through the session. He felt the process was transparent and meticulous, which made him trust the therapists. He elucidates the therapists being resourceful throughout the process and having wonderful listening skills. He also found them to be empathetic and kind.

He recalls them being structured and professional, which he felt was impressive. Yash elaborates that when the sessions raised concerns and his family was informed about his sessions due to an escalation, he was surprised to see his parents being supportive.

“The counselors were like a thought partner with whom we can speak our minds, discuss and figure out things better, as they have more context and experience understanding human minds.”

Yash says that having this safe space was helpful and positively impacted him. He also thanks his counselors for listening to him with patience and empathy in every session. Through the sessions, Yash also discovered that his requirements for self-awareness needed much more introspection than therapy.

Gaining this clarity, he started working on himself every day and reached a point where he could rate himself 5 out of 5. We are thrilled for the small part we played in his growth and wish him all the best.

Yash’s Warrior Tips:
1.“When you decide to take therapy, be consistent with them and trust the process.”
2.“Take your time evaluating the nature of your therapy sessions, as finding the right therapist is crucial to their success.”
3.“No matter where you are, learn to speak out when something isn’t working or uncomfortable for you.”
