Mudrika is a 21-year-old law student doing her Bachelor of Arts and Legislative Law (BA LLB) at National Law University, Delhi.
Originally from Haldwani, Uttarakhand, Mudrika comes from a nuclear family of her parents and two younger siblings. She says she and her siblings have lived in a hostel for their education since childhood, and Mudrika feels warmth and love whenever they go home. Her parents have always kept them secure and used to listen to everything they had to say about their school and college during their holidays.
She adds that hostel life taught her to be independent and manage her affairs without depending on anybody. Mudrika loves to play basketball and listen to music and has recently cultivated the habit of reading.
Mudrika moved to Delhi for college, which was challenging as she had always studied in an all-girls school. Being an introvert, she tried to explore the dynamics of her new environment and faced issues with her new acquaintances.
Mudrika recollects being overwhelmed by everything, coupled with the heavy expectations and curriculum that come with being in a law school. She tried to take sessions from the in-house counselors in her college, but after a few sessions, Mudrika felt there needed to be more progress. She then switched to the YourDOST platform, as her college had a subscription.
“I clearly remember my first session with Ms Anjali Jain. I was just going through an emotional turmoil, and I had no idea how to express it. She offered a sense of comfort and assured me about confidentiality.”
Mudrika explains that the counselor helped her calm down, and she freely expressed everything in her mind. Although it was just the first session, and they were just starting to build rapport, the counselor helped Mudrika identify the core issues and went deep into each of them. Impressed by the session, she eagerly looks forward to her subsequent sessions.
Mudrika recollects talking about her concern regarding an issue regarding ideology in her college and how it impacted her relationships and those of her circle.
“It was all a mess as we all saw friendships and relationships breaking, and I was losing people I cared about because of the conflicting opinions. Being restless with an emotional change and coping with academics, I developed a lot of anger issues and got very hyper-active as well.”
Mudrika elaborates that being under constant mental pressure troubled her a lot. She needed someone to talk to who would understand different perspectives instead of giving general advice to collect herself and process everything. She adds that she could avail herself of that through therapy as Ms Anjali gave her personalised techniques for each issue, depending on her every need.
The counselor let Mudrika vent out and find healthy outlets for her emotions. She used to verbally express her anger to people around her for a cathartic release. She explained that her counselor helped her detangle the issues that she thought were complicated to resolve, and eventually, she started feeling that life was not that hard.
“My counselor helped me see that I need not put too many constraints on myself by abiding by my values and setting high expectations. She made me realise it is okay to make mistakes and forgive others and myself.”
Mudrika adds that Ms Anjali primarily helped her overcome the feeling of being bothered by social pressure, and she understood that she didn’t have to prove herself to anyone.
She elucidates that her entire perception of life changed after a few sessions, and she developed a sense of control over her anger issues and became more calm.
“Therapy wasn’t just to solve my problems anymore; it became a place for finding emotional equilibrium in life. I look up to the sessions on the days I feel low and on the days I’m happy. It has genuinely been a transformative experience.”
Mudrika explains that it was a happy coincidence that Ms Anjali Jain was available when she needed her, as she had heard good feedback from her friends about her.
“I started taking these sessions six months ago, and my counselor taught me to be more humane and guided me towards peace and balance in the last six months.”
As she rates herself 3.5 out of 5 and walks towards self-growth, we are proud of her and wish her success in the future.
