Let’s meet Darshan, an earnest person who works in the Tech team of Freshworks. He is 25 years old and moved to Bangalore after his graduation for work. He comes from a very affectionate joint family with close knits to his mother.
Darshan has been studious since childhood, and it is not an overstatement to say he is more interested in researching new learning programs and upskilling for amusement. Occasionally, he also enjoys playing badminton in his leisure time.
Being methodical and planning-oriented, Darshan found himself at a crossroads about his future trails for the first time. A series of incidents put him in a dilemma about his next steps.
He needed someone reliable to talk to about his thoughts and actions. Through his company, Freshworks, he learned about YourDOST. He decided to reach out to the experts on the YourDOST platform.
“My situation wasn’t extreme, but it was still difficult. So I explored my options and decided YourDOST could be the right choice.”
The principal concerns emerged when he was unsure about his career growth and had trouble understanding the rationality of his thoughts and actions during those incidents.
“I wanted to find a path for my future and ensure my measures to a problem were on the right track.”
In addition, Darshan also found himself in entangled situations with his close acquaintances, which made him feel less capable of handling everything at once. He suspected that emotions could cloud his judgments.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” – Lao Tzu
He needed fresh eyes to examine his situation and guide him through the first step of the thousand miles. He points out that he wasn’t stuck or clueless about any aspect. Still, he needed to rely on a professional with experience with people in similar situations who could help without judgment.
“I always thought that I make mature decisions in life, but when faced with situations like these, I started to doubt my ability.”
He had sessions with several accessible experts on YourDOST because he wanted to find the precise undertone with them.
“I connected well with the third counselor Ms.Swathi. She gave me space to explain my views and empathized with me well. It helped me speak everything in my mind.”
He felt delighted that she paid close attention to what he had to say instead of imposing general opinions. It felt assuring for him when his counselor resonated with his views, and he realized the paths he was taking were not just spur-of-the-moment but well-thought-out routes.
“I wanted to ensure I’m not just making it up or acting out. I felt I had a right to feel validated, which I was able to receive through therapy.”
Along with counseling, the session also included journaling Darshan’s emotions and validating the reliability of his reasons for them. After every session, the counsellor gave him a set of exercises to follow until the next one.
“Life always waits for some crisis to occur before revealing itself as its most brilliant.” – Paulo Coelho.
Eventually, therapy helped him detect the reasons for specific events, and he felt he could be sure that he made virtuous choices for his life without second thoughts.
As the directions of his path clear, he is grateful to his counselor for being patient enough for him to get comfortable and open up. He feels he owes it to her for listening to him when he shares his issues and helping him figure things out for himself.
“The counselor was kind and considerate even when I interrupted her frequently during the sessions.”
As he walks through the revamping alley, Darshan rates himself 4 out of 5, considering his improvement. He feels competent in his decision-making skills.
“Transformation is a journey of discovery – there are moments on mountain tops and moments in deep valleys of despair.” – Rick Warren
With a re-enabled certainty, he believes that he is a better version of himself every day, and we have no doubt and confidence that this will be the case! We wish him luck in all his future destinations and endeavours!
Darshan’s Warrior Tips:
1.“The common misconception is that – therapy is for people who are ‘not stable’, but therapy is approaching an expert for mental health just like physical health.”
2.“People shouldn’t hesitate to seek counseling; it should be a regular activity equivalent to seeking guidance from family elders.”
3.“One shouldn’t wait until a dire situation occurs to seek help. Therapy could also be used as a preventive measure.”
