“Everything you ever wanted is on the other side of fear”- George Addair.
Tanisha (name changed) is a 21-year-old student at National Law University, Delhi. She dreams of being a successful lawyer in the coming years and persistently works on this dream every day.
The field of law is something for the strong-hearted. Between paperwork, preparing arguments, and shuffling between court and office, there is little time one finds for themselves. Law college is similar, with the degree preparing you for the outside world’s demands.
For Tanisha, this is the dream she’s wanted for a long time, and she continues to put in the work. She describes herself as an extrovert by nature, and her hobbies include reading, writing, and sports. Her favourite sports include badminton, swimming, and athletics.
Tanisha grew up in Delhi, the capital of India, and she describes herself as a social, optimistic and motivated individual. She remembers being the same during childhood and is lucky enough to carry these traits into adulthood.
The drive for her ambition brought her to one of India’s most prestigious law schools. While she initially thrived in all aspects of her course, she later found it difficult to maintain balance.
“I was juggling many things on my plate and feeling overwhelmed.”
Determined to balance her schedule, Tanisha decided to seek therapy. She had been to treatment a few times before, and she always used it as an outlet whenever she felt stressed or overwhelmed.
This time, since her college had a subscription with YourDOST, she decided to use it. She logged onto the platform and booked a session.
Her first session was with Ms Ishita Attri. During this interaction, she spoke to her about what had been going on and what aspects of her life she was struggling with. She describes that she found Ms Attri to be very jolly and caring.
“She was very understanding and smart enough to catch onto cues on what I was talking about”
After listening to Tanisha discuss her schedule, Ms Attri devised strategies to tackle the problems. She would also follow up on what they discussed in the previous conversation.
“She would also share some online resources to help with whatever we discussed on the call.”
One real-time strategy that Ms Attri suggested was eliminating any screen time 30 minutes before Tanisha went to bed to help her sleep better and replacing it with activities such as journaling and sketching.
The online resources that Ms Attri shared were articles on stress and anxiety so Tanisha could understand her problems a little better. These strategies brought stability to Tanisha’s daily routine, reduced her anxiety, and helped her develop effective coping mechanisms for every time she felt stressed or anxious.
Tanisha rates herself as 4 out of 5 in terms of feeling better, and she is grateful for her counselor’s methodological and strategic approach to helping her. We at YourDOST wish her the best of luck with her goals!
