Meet Neeraj Yadav, a seasoned telecom professional with over 14 years of experience in the corporate world. Currently, he is working as an Associate Consultant at HCL Technologies.
At 38 years old, Neeraj has seen the telecom boom up close over the last decade. He remembers that 2G was the norm when he started working, and he saw that go to 3G and 4G. Now, he lands at 5G as the new norm.
He is also the father to a baby girl. His wife is working as well as a yoga instructor. His extended family includes his younger sister, elder brother, and parents. His siblings are also married, and Neeraj is grateful for the bond they all share.
Neeraj hails from the town of Maunath Bhanjan in Uttar Pradesh. Neeraj’s family’s primary profession was farming, and he grew up helping his grandfather and father on farms. While growing up, he was close to his family, especially with his grandmother.
Another essential part of Neeraj’s childhood was the different athletic pursuits he took up. He often found himself on the podium of any sport he picked up, be it taekwondo, sprint races, or even wrestling.
” I was also one of the toppers in the GK competition in my district.”
While Neeraj excelled at different points during his childhood, he faced a turning point when he entered high school. Financial constraints at home, coupled with some issues within the family, made it difficult for him to concentrate on his studies.
He had to fight for the career he wanted and, with hard work, grit, and resilience, made it to work with a big company.
However, after a couple of years of working, the recession hit in 2011 and 2021, forcing Neeraj to change his stream. There was pressure to change his domain since the job market was unsuitable for his current role.
After that, he took up a decade of different jobs and roles to strike a balance between a job that he would be good at and a job that would pay well. But when he faced the challenge of competing with other people, especially those with the same degree as him, his mind would go into overdrive.
“I unknowingly went into procrastination because of this.”
After a while, he found himself in a good role and company within HCL Technologies. However, the sense of frustration and procrastination began to return. This is when he knew he had to do something to change things up.
He began to seek help through counseling with YourDOST. Since his company had a subscription, all employees could use the platform for free. He logged in and booked a session with Ms Arya.
Through his sessions with Arya, Neeraj learned practical techniques to manage his emotions and improve his focus. Each session was followed by homework, which included breathing exercises and journaling his thoughts. She asked him to do these exercises every time he felt overwhelmed or started to procrastinate on an important task.
Another issue Neeraj was struggling with was his anger. To tackle this, she introduced him to a countdown technique, asking him to count from 1 to 10 every time he felt angry.
Over time, Neeraj noticed a shift in his mindset. He felt more productive, positive, and capable of completing tasks without lingering self-doubt. He is very grateful to his counselor for restoring his perspective on life.
“She pulled me out of the hell, the hell which I have created under my own, you know, own body, own mind.”
Neeraj rates himself a 5 out of 5 for feeling better, and we at YourDOST are thrilled to see his progress!
Neeraj’s Warrior Tips:
1.“Address minor mental health issues early before they grow into overwhelming challenges.”
2.“It is imperative to ask for help; you can get support from the right people if you do!”
