The Transition of Heartache to Hope with Therapy: Shreyanse’s Story of Change

Shreyanse Jain is a 29-year-old ambitious young man who is a Senior Manager at HIL.

Born and raised in Banswara, Rajasthan, Shreyanse spent his childhood there before moving to Bangalore for higher education. After spending around ten years in Bangalore, he is currently living in Delhi.

Despite the many geographical transitions and personal hurdles, Shreyanse has stayed active and cheerful, finding happiness in hobbies like trekking, marathon running, swimming, and adventure sports.

“I enjoy doing treks, going on new adventures, and trying to explore new things.”

These activities keep him busy and allow him to channel his energy into something productive.

Living with three siblings in a happy and cheerful household, Shreyanse’s childhood was filled with challenges and love, and this love proved to be a supporting hand during times of despair.

Shreyanse first heard about YourDOST from his workplace, which partnered with the organisation as its official mental health partner. He turned to YourDOST when he couldn’t navigate the intricacies of his mental state himself.

Seeking a mental health professional to connect with, Shreyanse based his choice of counsellor on his hunch and emotions at the time and chose someone who best supported his feelings.

“I remember the first time I reached out to YourDOST. I was moving from one city to another, which was a difficult time as he was suddenly surrounded by a new environment which he found overwhelming.”

Adapting to a new place, meeting new people, and immersing himself in a different culture became overwhelming for Shreyanse.

He found comfort in seeking help from YourDOST and discussing his concerns with a counsellor. A few months later, another major life event prompted him to seek help again.

Shreyanse went through a serious breakup, which he describes as one of the most emotionally draining experiences. The person he dreamt of a future with and thought would be with him for life was suddenly out of the picture. This breakup left him in emotional turmoil, and he again turned to YourDOST for support. 

“Every time I talked through my concerns with my counsellors, the conversation took me out of that deep emotional baggage or whatever I was feeling. It used to make my mind similar to the YourDOST logo: the fluttering mind to a clear mind.”

The conversations with his counsellors about his relationship concerns and the grief he carried over the years, and their solution-oriented approach, brought clarity and a sense of calm, helping him manage his emotional swings.

The counsellors at YourDOST recommended various techniques to help Shreyanse manage his stress and anxiety. They suggested activities like journaling, which allowed him to express his thoughts and feelings. Writing letters for closure and giving himself time to heal were also advised.

“They used to tell me to do a few things, like writing journals and giving my emotions some time to get used to, and get occupied with a couple of other things that helped me get over my anxiousness.”

These simple yet impactful activities helped him cope with his emotions and find a sense of balance. Over time, Shreyanse noticed significant positive changes in his emotional well-being.

“My emotional swing would be shallow before the call, so I would reach out to them. However, after the call, I would be at least a person with a positive mindset. When I say positive mindset, it is like if I had gone backwards, 80 to 90 steps, I would have been forward at least ten steps.”

YourDOST’s support helped him move forward, even if it was just a few steps at a time. Shreyanse acknowledges that the journey to emotional recovery would have taken much longer without the help of YourDOST.
