Conquering The Tricks of Acceptance with Therapy: Yatin’s Journey of Healing

5 minutes

Understanding our fallouts and weaknesses is the biggest achievement one can have through a healing journey. Working on yourself comes second; acceptance is the first part of every healing journey. Today, we narrate the story of a warrior who values acceptance as crucially as healing himself with therapy.

Yatin is a 23-year-old happy-go-lucky engineering graduate from Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College. He is a man of his mind and has always seen himself as a quiet and reserved person.

Growing up in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, he was a studious, shy kid who always managed to keep up good grades from an early age. Despite having succeeded academically in school, life didn’t exactly unfold the way he envisioned.

As many Indian students of the same age go through the pressure of cracking the IIT exams, Yatin, too, faced similar struggles during his 12th standard. Soon after, the challenges of college revealed themselves and left him feeling lost and disconnected.

However, it’s often in those tough times that we find the strength to seek help and rediscover ourselves. As an introvert, Yatin didn’t open up about his emotions and stresses to even the closest of his friends, and hence, talking to a stranger seemed out of the question. However, as the mental burden took a toll on his overall well-being, he decided to step up and do the needful.

“I didn’t plan on going for therapy. I wasn’t sure if it was the right step for me, but I sought help no matter what.”

Yatin heard about YourDOST through his college. They had a partnership, making mental health services easily accessible to students like him. Hence Yatin made use of the services and found the answer to his concerns.

It took time for Yatin to let the concept of therapy sink in. He was persistently empty and became uninterested in things he once enjoyed. The ups and downs of a relationship bothered him, too, and that is when he thought, “Maybe I should talk to someone.”

Yatin’s first encounter with therapy was with Ms. Drashti Gada. Initially, he was sceptical about the process, but his nervousness soon melted away. Drashti’s warm and nonjudgmental presence made it easier for Yatin to open up.

“I was very new to therapy, and it was all a bit strange in the beginning. Ms Drashti was the kind of person you could easily talk to. I felt comfortable with her, which made me stick to her for nine months.

Yatin’s healing journey did not involve an overnight transformation but rather small, gradual realisations.

Therapy was more than techniques or exercises for Yatin. It was the way Ms. Drashti and he had deep conversations and figured out ways to help him move forward with his life. Simply having someone who listened and didn’t judge made a difference.

Through these conversations, Yatin began to build a clearer sense of self-awareness. He began having a deeper understanding of who he was and what he was supposed to be doing in times of despair and anxiousness.

“Now I’m more conscious of what affects me. I’m more aware of my boundaries, and I’ve learned to be a little kinder to myself.”

Today, as Yatin looks back on his therapy journey, one thing stands out clearly: gratitude.

“I’m grateful for Ms Drashti. Even though it was all professional, I developed an attachment. Knowing that someone is there, genuinely listening to you the way you want to be heard, is something I can’t explain in words.”

He rated himself 3 out of 5 for feeling better. For him, improvement doesn’t mean becoming a new person. It means accepting things as they are, even if they’re not perfect.

Yatin’s journey isn’t about a dramatic transformation but finding a small, steady light in the dark. We at YourDOST are proud of his journey and wish him the best in the future!

Yatin’s Warrior Tips:
1.“We don’t need to have it all figured out. The first step can be as simple as talking to someone who can listen without judgment.”
2.“Even if we fail to follow every technique or task, showing up and talking about what’s on our minds can still be incredibly valuable.”
3.“Finding someone we feel comfortable with is essential, whether it’s a counsellor, friend, or family member. The proper support can make all the difference.”
