Cracking the Loop of Thoughts from Within: Bani’s Story of Therapy

4 minutes

Sometimes, life feels stuck on repeat, with the same routine day after day. It can be challenging to break out of this cycle, but often, all it takes is a moment of clarity to realise that help is needed. For many people, the journey to feeling better starts with that brave first step of asking for support and guidance.

This is the story of Bani, a 23-year-old UX designer from Gurgaon. Bani completed her Bachelor’s in Design from Lovely Professional University.

Originally from Shillong, Meghalaya, she has always been passionate about her career and continues to explore the depths of design.

Bani’s childhood was very isolating. She remembers being alone as a quiet kid who barely spoke to people. Her lonely childhood significantly impacted her, shaping her introverted nature.

Over time, Bani’s relationship with her family has improved.

“It’s been better than the years before. Now I can say that I talk to my parents more.”

Bani has had a variety of hobbies. She loves drumming, dancing, reading books, and watching movies. Her passion for designing is evident, and she truly loves her career.

“I love learning about everything that revolves around designing.”

Bani first heard about YourDOST from her college, which has a partnership with the organisation as their official mental health partner. Here, she chose Ms Krititka and Ms Nidhi as her counsellors for the days ahead.

Bani’s journey with therapy began during a time when she felt hopeless and stuck in a routine. She remembers a specific moment when she couldn’t get out of bed.

“I had enough. I couldn’t face people, stayed in my bed the whole day and was stuck in an infinite loop, so I just booked an appointment, and it started the journey with YourDOST.”

This decision was unrelated to her being away from people, as she had always been more of an indoor person. However, she realised she needed therapy in her second year of college.

This turning point led her to seek help through YourDOST. Her sessions with Ms. Krititka and Ms. Nidhi involved various activities and techniques that helped her manage her feelings of hopelessness.

Sessions with Ms Nidhi proved to be extremely beneficial for Bani, and she gradually got into the routine of day-to-day life.

During her sessions, Bani was introduced to journaling and prompts that helped her process her emotions. She was given exercises, breathing techniques, and an emotional wheel to help her understand and manage her feelings. These tools became a significant part of her journey towards self-improvement.

Whenever Bani had her sessions, she noted down the things discussed and practised them in her daily life.

“These practices have had a positive impact on me, even if I can’t pinpoint exactly what has changed. It has surely made me feel better,”

After a journey of healing, she is on the path towards being better, and today, Bani expresses deep gratitude to her counsellors.

“I appreciate them being so patient with me. There were days when I knew that I was just venting a lot, like a lot. Their patience and understanding have made a significant difference in my journey.”

Bani rates herself 3 out of 5 in terms of feeling better. For her, improvement means changing her ways and doing things better.

“It’s not doing the same thing again, but finding better ways to handle situations.”

We at YourDOST are positive that Bani is on a path to continuous improvement and self-discovery, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours!

Bani’s Warrior Tips:
1.“Focus on creating a safe space for yourself. Prioritise your own needs and avoid situations that don’t concern you.”
2.“Practice journaling and breathing techniques to manage stress and anxiety.”
3.“Don’t be afraid to vent and express your emotions. It’s important to process them healthily.”
