Shristi’s Healing Journey of Braving The Storms with a Smile

4 minutes

“In the midst of winter, I found there was within me an invincible summer.” – Albert Camus.

Shristi is a 21-year-old from Kolkata who works in the Operations Department at Urban Piper. Her journey of overcoming personal challenges and finding her path inspires many.

Shristi was always a shy and reserved child while growing up, who lacked confidence and was often scared of confrontation.

“I didn’t like people who shouted at me. I didn’t have the confidence to stand up for myself. I used to keep quiet and just listen to them.”

This timidity crept into the interactions she had at home with her own family. Her family consists of her mother, father, and elder brother, to whom she is closest.

Despite her shy nature, Shristi found solace in creative outlets.

“I love making videos and doing open mics. I also indulge in writing poems and shayaris.”

Shristi keeps herself updated with the trends of this generation. She finds a passion for creating reels, which allows her to express herself in ways she couldn’t otherwise.

Shristi learnt about YourDOST from her workplace, which has a partnership with the organisation as their official mental health partner.

Her initial therapist left the job, transferring her to Ms Heba Ahmed, her new counsellor.

“I was initially sceptical because there was a comfort quotient with the other therapist, but now, I don’t think anyone can be better than Heba. She is the ultimate helper.”

Heba’s ability to give reality checks and comfort made a significant impact on her.

Shristi sought therapy due to troubles in a long-distance relationship filled with trust issues and confusion.

“I used to have anxiety attacks, and I panic easily. There were a lot of messes in my relationship. I needed someone to talk me through it and help me stand up for myself.”

Heba provided the support and guidance that helped Shristi deal with the roubles and stresses of her relationship. During her sessions, Shristi learned various techniques to manage her stress and anxiety.

“I’m very stubborn about practising physical activities, but Ms Heba is still trying and is patient with me. She asked me to write things down, which helped.”

While she has yet to embrace all the suggested activities, Heba’s understanding and patience have been crucial in her progress.

“Gradually, I stopped doubting myself over trivial issues. I started self-care and thinking highly of myself. Now, I know when to take a stand for myself and when to leave an uncomfortable environment, and that I don’t have to keep solving things that can’t be resolved.”

These positive changes marked significant milestones in her journey of self-discovery and growth. Today, Shristi is highly grateful to Ms Heba for helping her out.

“Ms Heba knows what she’s doing and she’s great at it. I hope to get another therapist as good as her because she has greatly helped me in many ways, and I’m truly grateful to her.”

In terms of feeling better, Shristi rates herself 4 out of 5 and envisions improvement as being synonymous with self-belief.

We at YourDOST are confident that Shristi is on her way to reaching the golden 5, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours!
