“Time heals what reason cannot” – Seneca
Emotional disruption can often feel as intense as the twists and turns in a Bollywood drama, where love and despair are inextricably linked. It can also feel as isolating as the sleepless nights and tear-stained pillows that come with heartache, where the struggle to find peace and clarity seems never-ending.
Originally from Uttar Pradesh, 23-year-old Yash found himself stuck in a web of emotional turmoil that seemed all too familiar. He pursued his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering at Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College.
After graduation, Yash worked with Infosys for six months before joining his father, a lawyer, in his work. Currently, he is pursuing an MBA, a decision motivated by his desire to expand his horizons and achieve greater heights.
Yash’s family consists of four members, his parents and his younger brother, who is four years his junior.
“While I share a good relationship with my family, my relationship with my brother has been somewhat distant. However, we both are committed to improving their bond.”
Yash is someone who knew the value of good relationships early on in his life, however, he began facing issues in the same domain later on in his life.
During his time at his engineering college, Yash came across YourDOST, the official mental health partner of his institution. A free session conducted by YourDOST left a lasting impression on him, planting the seed of awareness about mental health support.
The turning point in Yash’s life came when he met Ms Keerthana, his counsellor. Having consulted many therapists in the past, Yash was hopeful yet cautious about finding someone who truly understood him.
“My first impression of Ms Keerthana was overwhelmingly positive. She made me feel comfortable and provided answers to my doubts, which helped me feel understood and supported.”
The primary reason Yash sought therapy was due to the emotional turmoil caused by a one-sided love. While he was accepting of the rejection and aware of his position, the gaslighting and emotional manipulation from the other person left him devastated.
“This experience eroded my confidence and self-esteem which led to bad dreams, sleepless nights, and bouts of crying. I feared the changes in my behaviour and turned to therapy as a means to regain control and find clarity.”
In his sessions with Ms Keerthana, Yash was introduced to various techniques and activities that helped him manage his emotions. Among these, journaling proved to be the most beneficial. It allowed him to write down his thoughts, gain mental clarity, and identify his emotions amidst the chaos. Additionally, worksheets for analyzing feelings further aided in his emotional balance.
“When it comes to grave issues like these, we should invest in a better mindset and not hesitate because of monetary issues. I just wanted to grow, get out of the negative zone, and work on myself to get better.”
Ms Keerthana’s empathetic approach played a crucial role in Yash’s journey. She targeted the root cause of his issues and provided a safe space for him to express his feelings without judgment. Her attentiveness and friendly demeanour made Yash feel valued and understood, which encouraged him to open up more.
“Her approach was unique and targeted the root cause of my issues. She listened attentively and was more of a friend to me. It made me open up better and feel good.”
The positive changes in Yash’s life were evident as he began to notice that the things that previously made him sad no longer affected him as much. He felt happier by day, more content, and experienced a significant reduction in his tendency to overthink.
“I am extremely thankful and glad to have met her at my lowest time. She was there for me the entire time and no amount of money or time can give me the results she helped me achieve.”
Reflecting on his progress, Yash rates his improvement as 4 out of 5, understanding that self-improvement is a continuous journey. Yash’s story is a testament to the transformative power of therapy. His journey from feeling isolated and overwhelmed to finding clarity and strength highlights the importance of seeking help when needed and proves to be a beacon of hope for those facing the same turbulence in life.
We at YourDOST are proud to be a part of Yash’s journey and wish him continued growth and success in the future!
