From Being a Machine to Mental Well-Being: Anant’s Journey With Therapy

“Good things don’t come easy. The road is lined with pitfalls.” – Desi Arnaz.

Life is a journey filled with challenges and triumphs and clearing the path through its ups and downs often requires guidance and support. However, life can take a significant turn when we discover the transformative power of therapy. It is the same way Kaira’s life from “Dear Zindagi” was changed with the help of Dr Jehangir who helped her find a new path of life!

Anant (name changed) currently resides in Bangalore and originally hails from Delhi where he was born, brought up, and completed his schooling and undergraduate studies. His career began in Delhi, followed by an MBA in Hyderabad before moving to Bangalore two years ago. He currently works as a Product Manager at Mahindra Comviva.

Throughout his life, Anant has always been a highly competitive and academically sound individual, known for his multitasking abilities and relentless drive for success.

Being the youngest in his family, Anant shares a strong bond with his parents and is particularly pampered, which often leads to over-caring from them.

“The COVID-19 pandemic brought me back home after 14-15 years and helped me develop a beautiful relationship with my family. This time together helped us strengthen our relationship and get together well, as we all had grown as individuals.”

Anant first heard about YourDOST through his company, which has a subscription to the organization. Encouraged by a friend’s positive experience, he decided to give therapy a try. This decision turned out to be life-defining for him. He attended a seminar by Ms Puroitree Majumdar, a counsellor at YourDOST, whose words resonated deeply with him. This led to his first session with her.

“When she had conducted a seminar in the office, her words related to me the most. When I spoke to her, it was amazing. I realized things about myself that even I didn’t know.”

Ms Majumdar’s amicable and non-judgemental nature helped Anant open up and trust the process of therapy.

Initially, Anant sought therapy on a friend’s recommendation to explore himself better. However, his multitasking nature and the pressures of starting a company and writing a book led to feelings of overwhelm, especially during the confinement of COVID-19. His ambition, though a driving force, began to take a toll on his mental health.

“I was bombarded with a lot of thoughts and hence sought therapy to just speak my heart out and Ms Majumdar guided me through this challenging period and helped me find a way out myself.”

One of the first techniques Anant was introduced to was journaling, which helped him acknowledge both his positives and negatives. Another was the emotional wheel, aiding him in understanding the range of emotions he experienced daily.

“I was a bit backwards in acknowledging my emotions and worked mechanically throughout. My emotional intelligence was reducing, and that’s when Puroitree stepped up.”

Ms Majumdar helped Anant embrace his emotional side and provided techniques to rediscover himself, loosening his mechanical and overly ambitious approach to life. This holistic living approach led to positive changes, similar to the butterfly effect, where one positive change paved the way for success in various aspects of his life.

“I can’t thank her enough as she was patient enough with me, helping me be consistent with therapy. She helped me understand myself and rediscover myself better. We all have hidden heroes in our lives, and that is Puroitree for me.”

Rating himself 4 out of 5 in terms of feeling better, Anant believes that improvement means getting better every day. Anant’s journey with YourDOST highlights the importance of seeking help, embracing change, and continually striving for personal growth.

We at YourDOST are proud of his journey and wish him the best for his future!

Anant’s Warrior Tips:
“Inspired by Shahrukh Khan’s movie “Dear Zindagi,” Anant shares some valuable insights: 1.“Take the easier path if you aren’t as confident, and why punish yourself for that? It is ok if you choose the easier path for now and come back to the difficult part later.”
2.“Even before selecting a chair, we try out different options, so why isn’t the same done while choosing a partner?”
3.“Genius is knowing when to stop, so when things are not leading anywhere, it’s always better to stop.”
