This Is How Sameesha Let Go Of Her Past And Conquered Fear One Day At A Time Through Counseling

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”

–Dale Carnegie

A true mental health warrior, Sameeksha (name changed) is a 28-year-old Engineering student from the renowned institute of IIT Delhi. She completed her graduation from here. Sameeksha was born in a town in UP, and she moved to Delhi for her Bachelor. She is currently residing in Bangalore.

She enjoys reading books, is learning Salsa and is interested in learning musical instruments.

She comes from a close-knit family and expressed that her parents are supportive, and she was never pressured to perform for anything. Her opinions and decisions mattered and she mentioned that this helped her form a lot of her personality.

“Since childhood, I have been a very emotional person. Everything seemed normal, but somewhere I wasn’t aware that I wasn’t living my life in a fulfilled way.”

Sameeksha wasn’t in a good position overall. She had a depressive episode in the past and when things got better she recovered. There was always this fear of what if it would happen again.  She expressed that she was constantly living in this fear and wanted to remove it and that is why she decided to come seek counseling.

It was around this time she booked her session with Ms Nimisha Katare, from YourDOST, an emotional well-being coach associated with her college. With Nimisha she found warmth and assurance and understood her issues well. and this changed her life for the better.

“Speaking to the counselor helped me grow as a person and I have been able to feel so much better. I was able to become confident and am grateful to my counselor.”

She always felt dissatisfied with whatever she did without knowing the reason behind it.

Sameeksha expressed that her counselor helped her manage her emotions better and the techniques she suggested like observing things and managing overthinking by learning to let go.

“Nimisha helped me dissect human emotions, how to be better in conducting yourself as a person and would have a causal discussion on managing emotions better.”

Proceeding with the counseling process, Sameeksha was suggested certain techniques to work on and she religiously followed them. On the brighter side, she started noticing changes in her overall life. Once drowning in her sadness, she soon started to notice a speck of happiness in small things.

“I have started living in the present and this itself is a beautiful change. Letting go of the past helped me feel better, I got my happiness and she helped me understand that it’s important to reflect on the good things.”

Sameeksha expressed that she has become more grateful, inculcated positive thinking, and has begun practising resilience.

She rates her overall improvement through counseling with a 4.5 out of 5. When we, at YourDOST, learned her story, we felt immensely joyous as mental health matters to us. Sameeksha is truly an inspiration!
