Roshni’s Story of Progress and Her Dedicated Journey of Life

5 minutes

“Happiness is not a goal, it’s a byproduct of a life well-lived.”- Eleanor Roosevelt.

Certain things happen in our lives that help us understand that some things happen for a reason, and all we have to do is keep our head high, and move forward no matter what.

Here is the story of Roshni, a 22-year-old young woman who has recently completed her Master’s and is preparing for competitive examinations as well.

“I stayed in a hostel for the past two years and I’ve come back now to live with my family. I’m really close to them as there are only a few people in my private circle. I’m an ambivert and can bring out a completely different personality in front of my loved ones.”

Roshni is a bit hesitant to talk to new people and make friends with them. However, once she connects with them she forms a beautiful relationship with them.

Roshni cherishes her memories of her childhood and school times and shares a close relationship with her school friends even today.

In school, I had a group of friends, and we used to hang out with each other and we used to plan a lot of stuff, conduct group studies, and have a lot of fun together. I still keep in touch with them.”

Roshni learned about the YourDOST platform from her institute, Parul University as they have collaborated with the organisation as their official mental health partner. Here she met Ms Pranami and chose her as her therapist.

“The only problem I was facing was to understand how to make a clear decision in my life. I was not able to stick to a decision for more than a week, and I was scared to decide because this was the first time I was going to do something on my own. I also involved my parents as secondary support. I was very clueless and that’s when I approached her for guidance.”

Roshni had learned in her life to be happy and create happiness for herself from an early age. However, she could not figure out how to maintain the happiness within her. She was also longing to get hold of her self-confidence which decreased somewhere along the way and foster strong decision-making skills.

“I had to make a decision that affected my career and I was afraid that those effects would permanently scar my decision-making process.”

Ms Pranami helped Roshni understand that nothing is going to be permanent in life and sometimes not making a decision is a decision in itself. Roshni gradually came to the understanding that everything happens for a reason and it would have a logical explanation attached to it.

Ms Pranami assigned various activities to Roshni that helped her regulate her emotions well and analyse her thoughts. She wrote about the feelings associated with the thoughts, the intensity and her level of understanding towards the thoughts.

“I was also taught to understand the reason behind certain situations. For example, if something is happening, you should always try to look back to your past achievements. Along with that there were also activities like the mindfulness and breathing exercises which I have done.”

Roshni had always been very positive towards a given situation, but didn’t know how to handle it positively consistently. Hence, whenever a situation arises, she’s always ready to give her 100 per cent. She learnt about the necessary techniques and kept herself very calm and gave her emotions a thought before acting on them.

“During my lowest phase when I couldn’t even talk to my own parents and my friends where I felt helpless, she was the one who got me to believe in myself. She told me that I’m enough for myself and I I can make good decisions as well. If it does not turn out to be a good one, it will still be an experience. Hence she made me understand that my self power is more than what other people think about me, believe me or not.”

Roshni is extremely grateful for her therapist as she held her hand through her darkest phases and helped her rise above with grace. Roshni rates herself a solid 4 out of 5 in terms of feeling better and envisions improvement as a balance in life.

We at YourDOST are proud of Roshni’s journey and wish her all the best for the future.

Roshni’s Warrior Tips:
1.“I think asking for help is not something you should fear. That is something you should ask for because you do deserve that.”
2.“Don’t think that you’re alone in between problems. You should always ask for help and let other people around you know that you are facing certain problems.”
