Improving The Ways of Life With Therapy: Akash’s Story of Dedication

5 minutes

“Good things don’t come easy. The road is lined with pitfalls.” – Desi Arnaz.

When we go through a series of unfortunate events in our lives, we often want an easy way out to ease the discomfort. However, there is never a premium subscription for getting good things in life as it should be chased and hard-earned to enjoy its impact. Working for the betterment of yourself will always yield results that would be pleasantly surprising.

This is the story of Akash, a B.Tech graduate from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Working in the Sales department of HCL, he is 30 years old and has several degrees to his name that make him an extraordinary human being. He has a Master’s in Psychology and a Post Graduation in Yoga along with his Btech degree. His life is a testament to the unique individual he is.

Akash stays with his parents with whom he shares a great bond. He comes from a happy and caring family who have an amazing relationship with each other. He has an elder sister as well who is almost like a second mother to him.

One’s personality and passions make one stand out in the crowd, and Akash is a person who has several distinct hobbies that make him special.

“I love learning new things in life. I have a passion for psychology, arts and technology as well, hence my degrees.”

Akash’s love for psychology and its ways helped him get hooked on the advantages of taking therapy at the right time.

Akash learned about YourDOST from his alma mater, BITS Pilani, which has a collaboration with the organization as their official mental health partner.

“It has been almost 3-4 years since I learned about the YourDOST platform. I had been taking counselling sessions since and it had opened new doors for me.”

Akash recalls his first impression of his therapist as being cordial and pleasant. He remembers having interactive sessions with them that helped him find a new way in life.

“At the time, I was struggling with some concerns in my life and therapy helped me immensely. I had a couple of big, life-altering decisions to make and I felt confused and extremely overwhelmed. Therapy helped me get a third-person perspective on my concerns.”

Akash was also dealing with procrastination in his college days and kept putting off things instead of working on them. Due to this, he wanted to improve his ways of life and overcome the difficulties.

Procrastination is a difficult aspect that most college students and even professionals deal with at some point in their lives. The added stress of studies, projects, and pressure makes it physically impossible for some to get up and work on the littlest of things, which is normal.

Turning to help at the right time makes the journey a bit better for hardworking individuals like Akash.

“Talking about my concerns and sharing opinions helped me figure out things in a much easier way. My counsellor engaged in interactive sessions with me which helped me feel comfortable about talking about my issues.”

As it was Akash’s first time with counselling, he was keen on setting expectations with his therapist so that they would have a better understanding of his concerns and he was successful in laying out the groundwork for it. What all things to share, what to decide, what to expect, etc. were some of the questions that he needed answers to and his therapist helped him conclude all these queries.

“I realised early on in the sessions that rather than being the backseat driver of my life and letting someone else take control, I just needed to know the routes well so that I could take the wheel in my hands.”

Akash expresses his heartfelt gratitude to his therapists as they helped him immensely in his journey of life.

“All the therapists are extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to helping me out. I could sense the concern for me in their voices. Their passion and dedication to me and my questions were incredible.”

Akash rates himself 3 out of 5 in terms of feeling better and envisions improvement as growth in life. He feels that more than obtaining solutions, it’s always a great idea to have someone to talk to without any filters and that’s how he approached therapy.

We at YourDOST are positive that Akash is just moments away from hitting the golden 5 mark and we wish him luck in all his future endeavors!
