Empowering Narratives: Gayathri’s Counseling Journey for Personal Growth

“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.”
-J.R.R. Tolkien.

Gayathri, a 25-year-old Growth Marketer at Social Beat is a resilient young woman who is after answers towards knowing and understanding herself better. Hailing from the vibrant city of Jodhpur, her familial roots intertwine the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

Her parents are eminent lovers of culture and art and it has helped Gayathri receive a warm and nurtured childhood from both her parents. She giggles and says it is the aromatic veg thali meal that brings both these states together and growing up there was love, warmth, opportunities, compassion and much more

“I am blessed to have parents like them. They always taught me to go after things I loved and never back down.”

She has always had a well-rounded lifestyle and the biggest credit goes to her parents. While parenting comes with no classroom teaching, a few of them crack it and some of them dont as they end up having to tussles with the waves life puts them through as parents they start losing focus on the overall well-being of the child.

However, in Gayathri’s case, it was different as she had a love-knit upbringing making her a woman of courage, confidence and a heart filled with kindness.

From exploring the stillness of museums to being a wanderlust traveller, exploring her culinary skills and focusing on pilates and stretching exercises, Gayathri enjoys spending her time doing peace-bringing activities to enrich holistic well-being and personal growth.

In her expedition towards finding herself, she wanted to work on herself as a person as somehow she experienced something holding her back emotionally and wanted to seek her answers.

“I noticed how at a point in time I was not myself and experienced a kind of an anger that created anxiety. It was around this time I decided to seek professional help.”

Gayathri found out that her current organisation is providing free counseling services to its employees as a part of the emotional wellness program they have a paid subscription with YourDOST as their official mental health partner.

She decided to book her first session on the platform.

Gayathri expressed that growing up receiving therapy sessions was a part of her conditioning and she is grateful that she gave her Mental Health the space and time with it.

“I met Ms. Shabrina Ashraf through my counseling session, and I did not know the change and goodness she was about to bring in to my life the day I met her.”

Gayathri started taking regular sessions and expressed that she has been kind and empathetic and changed her perspective about therapists. Additionally, this also helped her understand how therapy works.

“I remember how most of my sessions were extremely fun. She was compassionate and hilarious and I enjoyed speaking with her.”

Gayathri expressed that she received the validation she was seeking for from Shabrina and that she was the one woman apart from her mom with whom she could share her feelings.

Ms. Shabrina suggested Gayathri start practising therapeutic techniques to help her go after the dreams, and work on her anger and unsettled emotions. Some of these include positive self-talk and affirmations along with educative conversations that consisted of logical reasoning which made her understand things one day at a time.

It is sometimes interesting how all it takes is one person to make or break our life. In Gayathri’s case, her counselor turned out to be the magician she was secretly making wishes to and it helped her heal completely and become the bold woman that she is today.

“Through therapy I was able to become calm and composed and achieve the growth I was looking for. Ms Shabrina’s conversations and insights have become my life lessons.”

Gayathri described that therapy was life-changing as her self-talk has become empathetic and positive, and her anger has reduced. She is also more cautious about what she says and how she says it and her social relationships have started to thrive and she is grateful to YourDOST and her counselor.

We are super proud of her progress. She has rated herself with a 4.5 out of 5 in terms of feeling better post her therapy sessions.

Our Growth Manager surely takes her job seriously both personally and professionally. March on! Gayathri, we wish you all the very best.
