3 minutes

Vishwas Reddy, a 20-year-old B.Tech student at NIT Rourkela, hails from the vibrant city of Hyderabad. With a passion for badminton and a close bond with his elder sister studying in the US, Vishwas’s journey is a tale of growth, resilience, and self-discovery.

Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana, is a melting pot of rich history and vibrant culture. Known as the City of Pearls, it’s renowned for its unique blend of ancient heritage and modernity. The city’s heart beats in its bustling bazaars, majestic monuments like the Charminar, and the glorious Golconda Fort.

Hyderabad’s cuisine, especially its world-famous biryani, reflects its diverse cultural influences. This city, with its harmonious blend of Muslim and Hindu traditions, offers a kaleidoscopic experience of India’s cultural and historical diversity.

Raised in a residential school, Vishwas learned the ropes of independence early on.

“Boarding school was a turning point for me. It shaped my character and behavior, honing my communication and social skills.”

This foundation set the stage for the challenges and triumphs that lay ahead in his college years. Transitioning to college life at NIT Rourkela, Vishwas faced unexpected hurdles.

“College was a different ball game compared to school. I struggled to make friends and often felt out of place.”

This led to self-doubt and a sense of isolation that was new to him. Vishwas learned about YourDOST when his college partnered with the organization for mental health support.

“I decided to give counseling a try, hoping to find a way to navigate my social challenges.”

His first interaction with a YourDOST counselor was a breath of fresh air.

“She made me feel comfortable and understood. It was liberating to express my thoughts and concerns without fear of judgment.”

The counselor encouraged Vishwas to reach out to his peers and shed his hesitation.

“The advice to actively seek connections was a game changer for me.”

Post-counseling, Vishwas’s efforts bore fruit.

“I made a couple of friends, and one of them is now my roommate. I’m thankful I took the initiative.”

This newfound social circle brought a sense of belonging and joy that Vishwas had longed for.

“I am immensely grateful to my counselor for helping me feel normal. Her validation of my feelings about making online friends was crucial.”

Speaking with his counselor not only improved his social skills but also boosted his confidence.

Reflecting on his journey, Vishwas rates his post-therapy well-being as 4 out of 5.
