Navigating Through The Seas of Emotions With The Help of Counseling Geet’s Story.

5 minutes

Geet (name changed), who hails from Dil waalon ki sheher Delhi is a 22-year-old working professional who carved her life by pursuing a B.Tech from Delhi Technological University. Being an adventurous spirit, she loves to explore new things and doesn’t hesitate to try new things. She desires to be a master of all and thus fancied her chances at playing the piano or learning a new language like French.

Geet comes from a lovely family of seven, including her grandparents. Her childhood was a roller coaster ride, sailing through the bad and the good experiences in life. In the face of difficulties, families stay strong and support each other, helping to overcome the hurdles that come their way.

Being the eldest, she found herself deeply involved in family matters, often taking on the role of the family therapist during challenging situations. Growing up amidst all the family drama, she has understood how long-term relationships work.

Geet finds herself closer to her mother. She has been vocal and opinionated about her feelings and emotions. She is thankful that her mother moulded her to be fearless and express her views.

Geet and her family were going through a rough patch. She just got fed off the fuss, and that’s when she realised she had anger issues. For years she had been channelling her negative emotions into anger, allowing it to consume her.

Never do anything when you’re in a temper for you will do everything wrong. – Baltasar Gracian.

The anger develops with petty things and later develops into a big concern. In a rage, Geet would bring up something from the past about the person she is talking to turning it into a long heated argument.

Geet had an idea that she had difficulty expressing negative emotions the right way. This resulted in miscommunication and relationship issues. It would take a toll on her head.

Geet had realised sooner that she needed help to control her emotions and anger. She needed to express her feelings in a much healthier way.

Geet shares how she got to know about YourDOST. It was on Instagram, where she had posted a story asking her friends if they knew any therapists. I got a recommendation from one of my college mates, who was already seeking therapy.

That’s when she realised that her college had partnered with YourDOST dedicated to mental health well-being. She thought of giving it a chance and setting off on a journey of betterment.

“I’m fortunate to have such a facility available to us. Just one click away. It’s a good tool. I appreciate the efforts that YourDOST is putting into mental health.”

With a mix of uncertainty and hope, Geet found Jacob as her counselor. Since the beginning, his attentive listening and ability to look beyond her words impressed her. His questioning patterns left a deep impression on her subconscious decisions, helping her gain a better perspective.

Jacob recommends some valuable techniques for Geet to start her journey to enlightenment. Journaling her thoughts would help her to recognise that emotions were just fleeting statements, and a questioning mindset helped her put her thoughts into a new perspective.

“Apart from journaling, another counselor had suggested writing my thoughts and a counter-thought to rate how extreme these emotions were. This helped me into introspection which was a self-test.”

Though the process came with its share of challenges, Geet was brave enough to jump over obstacles. She had realised that expressing her emotions through anger might not be the best approach.

“I’m grateful to have come across such a great listener. Jacob helped me realise that, I’m above my emotions and my thoughts. I’m in charge of my own.”

Geet’s journey with YourDOST has been transformative. Learning about her emotions and gaining control opened new opportunities for her. She feels more than alive, and her anger is in control which is a relief. She looks forward to sailing through the new challenges that life throws at her.

Geet rates herself an excellent 4.5 out of 5 in terms of feeling better and wishes to be consistent as a testament to her growth and progress.

Geet’s Warrior Tips:
1.“I would suggest anyone who is going through a difficult time to talk to somebody. Somebody who you can trust to let out all the suppressed emotions.”
2.“Everyone’s problems are unique, and the best person to understand them is the one going through them.”
