“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” – Malcolm X.
Our parents have always encouraged us to study, read up on various things, evolve ourselves and do what we love. But, despite having support and motivation, sometimes we tend to feel, “Have I chosen the right path?” or “I hope I do not jeopardize my career”. This is the story of 21-year-old Ayush, who was caught in a similar situation. After pursuing B.Com, he was in a dilemma on whether to choose MBA as a path or serve the nation by appearing for the UPSC exam.
Through his college placements, Ayush got an offer that made him feel more relaxed, but he wanted to be sure to fit into the corporate world. He was doing well academically but eventually started feeling that he is not putting in his 100% effort.
After appearing for the CAT entrance exam for an MBA degree where he could not perform well, Ayush began to feel more worried about his future. With the help of his friend, he decided to reach out to a mental health professional or a counsellor. He got himself familiarised with services offered by YourDOST and got connected with a counselor.
“I was aware of counseling and how it works, as I took sessions back in 10th grade. So, I was early waiting to get in touch with YourDOST and help myself.”
From the very beginning, Ayush was very open while discussing his issues and worries about his future. Ayush’s counselor was very patient, who listened to him carefully without interrupting him. Ayush was asked to write down his career goal, plan for his future, and stick it on the wall. He was also asked to time himself based on his study time and leisure time, and he was asked to follow the famous ‘Pomodoro Technique’, which would help him with time management. Eventually, he was asked to list down the pros and cons of taking an MBA and UPSC. Ayush took it as a step-by-step process and started applying these techniques with the help of his counselor.
“My time management has improved a lot, and so has my daily schedule.”
With the help of counseling sessions, Ayush managed his time correctly, and he was able to bring back his study schedule. As a result, he started feeling more relieved and less stressed about his future.
“I had a deep conversation with them, and they carved me perfectly well to adjust to any situations while also giving my level best.”
Ayush still has slight difficulty in finishing off his work when he has short notice deadlines. But, he has gained the confidence to do anything now with respect to his career, unlike before! He applied these techniques while preparing for competitive exams.
Ayush is grateful to his counselor for helping him be more productive and be more confident.
Ayush’s Warrior Tips:
1. It is always better to get proper advice from a professional counselor.
2. Enjoy time with yourself and with people around you.
