“It’s not what you achieve, it’s what you overcome. That’s what defines your career.” —Carlton Fisk
All of us, at some point in our life, will have confusions in our career. We constantly doubt if we are choosing the right path. Aishwarya Tiwari, who is 26 years old, talks about how he was able to take away his confusions and have a better idea about his career. Aishwarya is a financial analyst and he wants to further pursue his career by doing CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst). But he wasn’t sure if it was going to be beneficial for his future especially because the course was a little expensive and he did not want it to go to waste if he took up the course.
I want to do CFA but what if it is not a good option for me. What if I am just wasting my time? I really wanted some guidance
When you have supportive parents you will have more confidence and satisfaction in what you pursue. Aishwarya’s parents were very supportive of what he wanted to take and never forced him to take only engineering. He did his B.com and now he is working as an analyst at Better.com. As Aiswarya is working as well he had to focus on bringing the balance between his studies and work.
She understood my exact issue.
Aiswarya had never been to a counsellor before and so he was not exactly sure as to what he had to talk about during the sessions and how to go about it. To get clarity he reached out to Urvasi, a counsellor in YourDOST and once he started going to the sessions he started becoming more comfortable with Urvasi and started opening up more. He felt that she was able to understand what exactly he was going through. Until he started his sessions he always thought he had only one option in his hand, but Urvasi was able to open his perspectives and make him feel more at ease. He was asked to note down what other options he had if not CFA and this helped him feel that he had many more options to focus on. He was also asked to take up a coaching class for CFA which will help him understand if the course will help him in the future. He was able to plan out his day and his future better and this made him feel less anxious.
He was very happy with Urvasi and he feels that he can be open with her always. It was not just Aiswarya who got professional help. His mother was also encouraged to get counselling from YourDOST. He encourages everyone to feel confident and seek professional help when they require it.
You should be straightforward to get help and you should come forward and get help.
Just like how Aiswarya mentioned, you should feel okay to come forward and ask for help.
