As humans, we all have that innate need to be liked. The need for approval resides deep within all of us. But the truth is that it is much easier to make someone dislike you than like you.
Here is a list of 10 Common Qualities that might make others dislike you:
1. Self-centeredness
We have to admit that at the end of the day all of us are selfish or rather we do make ourselves a priority in our lives. But how much of it is good? No one likes a narcissist. Give others the attention that they deserve and trust me people will love you for it.
2. Pessimists
Learn to look at the sunny side of every situation. Believe that if you try hard enough things will get better. If things still go wrong then teach yourself to believe that something good will come out of it. In a world that is bleak, no one wants to be with a person who constantly points it out to them.
3. Unreliable
Nothing ticks us off like someone who commits to something and then pulls out at the last moment. If you think you’ll end up not wanting or not being able to do something, just tell NO. They will respect you for being honest.
4. Dishonesty
Always be honest, never pretend to be something or someone you aren’t. Some people may not take the whole honesty thing all too well – stay clear of them. We all value an honest person because we know we can count on them and that they’ll always have our best interests at heart.
5. Backbiting
Yes, we all love to indulge in the occasional gossip – both women and men! But if you find a majority of your conversations being about other people and their lives and your comments on them then its high time to stop.
6. Chronic Swearing
This is my biggest pet peeve. Ever met someone who swears so much that all their adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions – anything and everything are swear-words? Cringe worthy! Yes, we are all entitled to swear, but don’t let it define your conversations.
7. Not Making Eye Contact
Always, make an eye contact. It makes the other person feel special, valued and secure. When you fail to make eye contact you project that you’re bored. Also, at times, it would appear like you are hiding something or that you are lying.
8. Self-pity
Constant self-pitying can drive even the nicest person off the edge. People are always ready to give you the pep talk to encourage you. But if you fail to accept it and drag on loathing yourself, you just might make the other person run away from you.
9. ‘Always’ being late
It’s okay to be late sometimes, but don’t make it a habit. You might just miss out on something important or let someone down. Learn to be there on time or a few minutes early.
10. Always Distracted
We all have a million things running through our heads and so do others. If you don’t pay attention to the people around you, they understand quickly and you’ll soon find yourself in the same position. Stop thinking of other things, stop texting, just immerse yourself in the moment and enjoy spending time with the people around you.
The easiest way to figure out if you have a trait that puts others off is to learn from others. If there’s something about someone else that you don’t appreciate then make sure you don’t have that in you. But always remember to be your own self. 🙂
