Hello,
I can understand what you must be feeling. You feel shocked and and terrified. It is not uncommon to feel that way when you learn about a diagnosis. However, if taking further steps is a concern then there are few things you must do to make informed choices:
- Please take a second opinion from another psychologist/psychiatrist for the above mentioned diagnosis. Carry your reports and files and discuss the same with another professional to be sure of the situation in hand
- Please follow suggestions on medication and therapy consistently. Consistency is the key to dealing with any form of mental health issues.
- It is also very important to share your issues with your family/trusted circle of friends as they are your support system and talking about the difficulties you are facing will help them understand you better and help you in return. Hence, think about talking to your family about the same.
Seeking help is the way to go. If we hesitate to do so, we may be risking our own mental health. More importantly, there are many individuals with personality disorders who attend therapy regularly and learn to cope with the discomfort they face. Hence think about management rather than cure at this stage because that is most helpful. I wish you all the best and I am sure you will find adequate help
