This is based on my 20+ years of experience in the industry. I agree very much with what Kartic has said earlier.
It does help to make a career choice that is in line with our personality and interests. However, it is not always easy to identify those aspects with clarity at 17 or 18 as we enter college (or at 15 when we make a choice on which stream to pursue). This will need active support from parents, friends and other well-wishers that can see the big picture and are willing to take a step back from the rat race to see what might be the best for an individual to do or pursue.
Even when a choice is made inline with personality and interests, any work brings with it some challenges. We do not work in isolation but in inter-dependence, whether it is a set of people around us, the organization that we work for, or the broader ecosystem and stakeholders that are part of what we deliver in some way or the other. So, nothing is going to be a cakewalk and will need to require the ability to constantly see the big picture and adjust our activities accordingly. In general, if the work is easy on the mind or is of a very generic nature (vs. specialized), it will probably be so for many others as well and it will likely get crowded bringing with it an intense competition. To deal with it, requires maturity, humility, dedication, and perseverance to stay with one's passion and to do the best. Specialized fields bring another set of challenges in terms of potentially limited opportunities or phasing out of that specialization as things evolve around us.
So, an approach of constant learning, adjusting, and up-skilling are absolutely essential, more so in the world that we live in today compared to what it used to be in the past. The openness to learn and to be able to identify and overcome our conditioning and set ideas, approaches will be key. What we have done or studied in the past does not have to or will not likely dictate what we do for the rest of our careers. This comes with recognizing that neither we nor the world around is static and things including personality and interests do change to some degree or the other. It is about building on our strengths and continuing to do our best.
Hope this helps. Happy to provide further inputs.
