Even though stress and anxiety are quite common during times of important events in our lives, we must ensure that it does not affect our health, and consequently our relationships and performance.
Doing some simple breathing exercise to gain focus and to reduce our stress levels, could be helpful. You could try the following exercise: Breathe through your nose till the count of four, making sure that your stomach expands, then hold the breathe in till the count of four. Now release your breathe through your mouth till the count of six. Do this four times. Focus on your breathe all the time. This will help in releasing the stress immediately, and will help in gaining focus. Do it as often as needed. Also, physical activity releases endorphins that can help boost mood. Regular exercise is also linked to higher self-esteem, better sleep, less stress, and more energy. Any type of moderate activity, from swimming to housework, can help. Choose something you enjoy and aim for 20 to 30 minutes four or five times a week.
Also, self talk/self motivation will help in gaining confidence. Do not compare yourself with others. Keep a close watch on your performance levels, where you were yesterday, where you are today, on the basis of that where will you be tomorrow. Be realistic in setting goals, do not push yourself beyond your limits. Understand your strengths and weaknesses. Work on converting your weakness to strengths. When you focus on a few important areas of your life at one point of time, your focus will automatically shift from worry and anxiety, to self-challenge and excitement. We must first of all stop judging ourselves so harshly. When we judge our emotions, it prevents us from understanding them, and miss the lessons that we could learn from the situations and experiences.
