A common name given to this phenomenon is Depression. But is it really depression. Lets find out.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<b><span style=\"color: blue;\">What is depression?<\/span> <\/b><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;\">According to World health Organization (WHO), &#8220;depression is a common mental disorder, characterized by sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, feelings of tiredness and poor concentration.&#8221; Depression affects one&#8217;s over all function. Starting from the physical, psychological to the emotional well being of the person along with social, occupational and educational impairment. It is a generalized term interchangeably used with feeling &#8216;low&#8217;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: blue;\"><b style=\"background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 19.6000003814697px;\">\u00a0Difference between feeling low and depressed?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><span style=\"line-height: 19.6000003814697px;\">The feeling of being low is temporary which can be a result of our daily situations. This feeling tends to get over after a short period of time. On the other hand when talking about depression its a long term effect. There is no one particular cause for depression. But what makes it different from the everyday feeling of being low is its affected time period, which on an average stays for more than two weeks at a\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height: 19.6000003814697px;\">stretch.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><span style=\"line-height: 19.6000003814697px;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: blue;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><span style=\"line-height: 19.6000003814697px;\"><b>Symptoms of depression?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"background-color: white; line-height: 19.6000003814697px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"background-color: white; line-height: 19.6000003814697px;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Depression is a long lasting mood disorder. It is important to consult a professional before the intake of any antidepressant so as to keep the side effects in check. Common side effects are nausea, sweating, anxiety, dry mouth, dizziness, restlessness headache and even increases irritability. Also each medicine is different from the other hence for the best results consulting a professional is important.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Psychotherapy:<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 24px;\">\u00a0Other than medication what holds equal important is therapy. One of the more commonly used is CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) that helps you deal with your negative thoughts effectively. Other therapies talk therapy, interpersonal therapies also work well in depression.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Self help:<\/b> What really makes a change is your will to come out of it. While medication and therapy are both important in case of depression what works is the small changes that are made in our day to day lives.
