Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus

3 minutes

Communication between the partners is very important for any healthy relationship. Though you love your partner and do what you think makes them happy results aren’t in your favor. Ever wondered why? Because, as John Gray says, Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus! That means men and women live in different worlds and expect different things from a relationship. Luckily, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, a popular book by author John Gray, contains many suggestions for improving relationships between men and women through understanding the communication style and emotional needs of the opposite sex. This article is a brief summary of the main ideas in the book.

Let’s talk about Martians i.e., Men. They love to be recognized & appreciated for their abilities and hate if they got ignored. They love to solve their problems on their own very quickly and don’t like unsolicited advice. For them feelings are not a priority and leaving alone is the best thing they expect during problems. They don’t give advice unless asked and consider success is directly proportional to worthiness of love.

In contrast, Venusians i.e., Women, love to have their feelings recognized and hate to have them ignored. They don’t like solution being offered when a problem is told instead they expect support and be very communicative about it. They talk for its own sake and love to listen unconditionally.  They like to be reassured constantly and acknowledge their feelings.

Even though both of them speak same language, their meaning is entirely different. So, what to do now? Understand the opposite sex and interpret their words correctly. Here are some important tips

  • Avoid arguments by being loving and respectful. Verbal attacks in the moment of heat does a great damage to the relationship.
  • Write down your feelings to express them in a controlled manner. Talk about negative emotions to solve issues as a team.
  • Men should learn to offer their services unsolicited and sensitive about their partner’s feelings.
  • Women should learn to ask help in clear and direct way without any implied criticism.
  • Don’t avoid your feelings by doing something but express them calmly in controlled manner to avoid unnecessary conflicts.
  • Men are like rubber bands, they get closed if they feel that their self-sufficiency and competency is threatened. Give them some space and they’ll be back to normal.
  • Women are like waves, they often sink into depression and finds issue to be worried about. Listen to their feelings and support them until they are their normal selves.

To keep the magic of love alive you must accept the changes and move on. A relationship is like a garden: if it’s to thrive it must be watered regularly.
